And it always does the trick ❤❤ The repeated resolving dissonance in the tonal support instruments that starts before 1:59 and then at 3:05 when the violin melody comes in is the moment. That surreal feeling when you just discover a musician you loved passed away.
For a long while now I’ve been listening to and loving “The Tired Sounds of Stars of the Lid.” It’s a beautiful collection of music:

I was curious what other records the duo may have done on their own. That’s when I learned Brian McBride left us in late 2023.
Music feeds the soul. Musician loss is big loss.

I have now listened to all 3hrs 4mins of the expanded edition of Selected Ambient Works Volume II.
It's alright. It has some really good moments. But also loads of things that are just sketches of ideas, or just plain boring & uninspired.
I love ambient music but I definitely don't rate #AphexTwin as highly for this as, say, #StarsOfTheLid or #Loscil or #Biosphere or even #BoardsOfCanada
And for weirdness I'd still plump for either hippy-dippy #FSOL or brain-shredding #Autechre instead
