I was just watching #StargateUniverse and noticed an unexpected name in the credits.

It was John Scalzi.

In anticipation of the new #Stargate series being produced I decided to re-watch it all. First SG1, then the interleaved seasons with Atlantis, followed by Universe.

I knew I would (re-)love SG1 and Atlantis (although the first low budget episodes of SG1 haven't aged well) but what surprised me was Universe.

That incel gamer nerd arc with the repeated "chads get the girls" storylines feels REALLY off now, to the point where that is what brings my opinion of the whole series down. If it weren't for that I think it's actually better than what the general consensus seems to be, and I would've liked to see it being picked up again.

This week fans of another “Star” franchise got big news about a long-awaited return to television. MGM and Amazon are bringing back Stargate, which should give fans of space-based sci-fi plenty of cause for celebration. Stargate’s absence from TV has Star Trek’s post-Enterprise hiatus beat, as it’s already been 14 years since the short-lived Stargate Universe went off the air on SyFy. The new television show will be a “new chapter” set in the same Stargate canon universe, and it apparently has been in development for over a year, but no release date has been yet set for the worldwide premiere on Prime Video.

The upcoming Stargate series is a continuation in the franchise that started with the 1994 Stargate feature film, which presented the idea that all those Egyptian pyramids were the work of aliens and there were more spread around the galaxy, accessible via the eponymous “star gates.’ The Stargate SG-1 TV series came three years later, followed by Stargate Atlantis and Stargate Universe , along with a handful of TV movies. All in all, there are 17 seasons with 350 episodes, and like Trek, the franchise introduced a richly crafted world with a sprawling cast of heroes and villains whom audiences came to love and loathe.

Along the way, quite a few familiar faces from the final frontier made their way through the gate. Star Trek alumni turned up in roles ranging from minor character to full-blown series regular—and perhaps some could be back.

We could fill a book bigger than Daniel Jackson’s scholarly notes with every Star Trek actor that crossed over, so instead, we’ll focus on the ones we can actually see returning for the new series. These characters are still active in the Stargate canon, and if the writers want them back, we may indeed see their cross-fandom faces once more.

I've been a fan of Stargate since the movie came out in 1994. I saw it in theaters 4 times, I love it instantly!

When the show premiered, I watched each episode & recorded them on my VHS tapes. With each new series, the franchise expand, similar to Star Trek, each series built on the previous & grew.

I only hope it is NOT in tone to Stargate Universe I did NOT like that series at all.

I've been (re)watching the first few episodes of #StargateUniverse and quite enjoying the grunge - it's no Farscape - (which pre-dated it !?!?) but I do like the way that the Ship (initially unnamed) is treated as a silent, inscrutable character e.g. 'This is what the ship intended from the moment it entered this solar system' .

I feel that I may have had most of the fun in the first 5 episodes as I vaguely recall that it is downhill from here on out.

Last night, my partner and I finished Stargate Universe Series 2. It had been so long since it originally aired, I had forgotten how good it was!
The crew of /The Destiny/ really grows on you, and after the show manages to find it's footing it gets into some fantastic scifi plotlines. Its a real shame it was cancelled just as it found it's footing, and before it got a third season. not only for the Stargate Franchise, but also as a standalone series.
