Das hier ist der eine klassische Western schlechthin! Und politisch eine der schärfsten, mir bekannten Abrechnungen Hollywoods mit Feigheit, Opportunismus und politischer Passivität. Dass der Film mitten in der McCarthy-Ära entstanden ist, war alles andere als ein Zufall. Dass er bis heute so relevant geblieben ist, belegt seine universelle Gültigkeit. Mit Gary Cooper, Grace Kelly und Lloyd Bridges. (ARTE, Wh.)

Humphrey Bogart als Captain Queeg ist der Typ Vorgesetzte, bei denen alle im Raum merken, dass mit dem etwas nicht stimmt – nur keine:r wagt es auszusprechen. Er verliert sich in Nebensächlichkeiten, sieht Verräter überall und verlangt vor allem eines: Loyalität! Mir scheint, je länger dieser Film existiert, desto unangenehm aktueller wird er wieder mal. Und das nach 72 Jahren! Wer heute amerikanische Nachrichten verfolgt, braucht nicht lange, um Parallelen zu entdecken. (3Sat, Wh.)

"Ship of Fools" (based on the novel by Katherine Anne Porter) takes place entirely on ship sailing from Mexico to Nazi Germany in 1933. Absolutely amazing cast including Vivien Leigh, Simone Signoret, Lee Marvin, and one of my personal all-time favorite actors, Oskar Werner.

Enjoying (Really Not The Right Word) the brilliant #JudgmentAtNuremberg. Nice touch by director - early on we see German lawyers speaking in German, camera (and subtly sound!) pulls back, being translated into English from someone in a booth. The camera leaves the booth to focus in on lawyer again and gently the spoken German transforms into English for rest of film.👏 Genius #StanleyKramer.
