Rally and community day - Oakland, PA.
4/19 Schenley Plaza @ 1pm.Rally with speakers, donate mutual aid, learn skills, and play games. Organized by 50501PGH and StandUpForScience. Donations go to the Our Streets Collective & the DSA/Community Forge Free Pantry. We will also have QR codes set up to direct donations to the Greater Pittsburgh Area Food Bank.
Suggested donations: Canned goods, nonperishable items, personal care items (tylenol, cold & flu, bandaids, masks, covid tests, tampons/pads, toothbrush/toothpaste, deodorant, diapers, wipes, formula, shampoo, body wash), tents, sleeping bags, and tarps.

Grâce à vous, le mouvement Stand Up For Science a pris en France une ampleur exceptionnelle. Ce vendredi 7 mars, nous étions entre 13 000 et 16 000 du fond de la grotte Chauvet jusqu’en Kanaky à exprimer notre solidarité avec les scientifiques et universitaires aux Etats-Unis, en Argentine et partout où les sciences et la liberté académique sont menacées.Il faut remonter à 2004 pour retrouver une telle mobilisation en soutien à la recherche scientifique, ou à 2009 pour l’Université.
Ce soutien s’est manifesté tant à titre individuel qu’institutionnel. Chercheurs et chercheuses, enseignant-es, étudiant-es et citoyen-nes ont pris part aux rassemblements, rejoints par des laboratoires, universités et instituts, et des collectifs qui ont tenu à affirmer leur engagement à ce mouvement. Nous espérons que celles et ceux qui se battent pour défendre leur métier et leur liberté auront trouvé une source d’inspiration en découvrant l’ampleur de notre mobilisation.

Mais Stand Up for Science ne s’arrête pas au 7 mars.
Si les scientifiques et les universitaires se sont mobilisés en France, c’est aussi parce que le savoir et sa transmission sont de plus en plus menacés dans notre pays également. Les manifestants de Stand Up for Science ont exprimé en nombre leur inquiétude devant le sort réservé aux étudiantes et aux étudiants, les coupes budgétaires récurrentes et les attaques en cours contre l’Université et la recherche. Si l’accueil de scientifiques contraints à l’exil est une urgence, il suppose financement et statuts protecteurs — ceux-là même qui sont graduellement supprimés en France depuis 20 ans. Plus globalement, le déblocage de moyens pour l’enseignement supérieur et la recherche est une urgence. Le collectif Stand Up for Science appelle à mettre en œuvre dès maintenant un plan de défense de l'Université et de la recherche, apportant de nouvelles garanties protégeant la liberté académique, les savoirs et les données, de toute attaque similaire aux menées fascistes que subissent aujourd'hui les scientifiques aux Etats-Unis.
Le collectif Stand Up For Science appelle à participer à la journée de mobilisation du mardi 11 mars pour défendre l’Enseignement Supérieur et la Recherche contre les réformes Hcéres et les keylabs. Dans les villes concernées, nous invitons celles et ceux qui le souhaitent à former ou rejoindre le cortège Stand Up for Science.
Il nous appartient désormais de prolonger l’élan du 7 mars et d’en faire un mouvement durable, capable de défendre la recherche publique et l’université face aux menaces qui pèsent sur elles.
Nous concluons cette première partie de l’aventure par un immense merci à toutes et à tous. La suite commence maintenant.

1) Many scientists have either had their grants terminated or can’t access approved funding while national science agencies comply with Trump’s recent executive orders. Our primary goal: defending science as a public good and central pillar of social progress. On March 7th, we will host official events mobilizing scientists and science advocates in Washington DC, New York City, Chicago, San Francisco, and 28 other cities around the United States....But March 7th is just the beginning. Our policy goals include a restoration of federal scientific funding, the reinstatement of wrongfully terminated employees at federal agencies, an end to governmental interference and censorship in science, and a renewed commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in science. We are also committed to empowering scientists–and anyone who has benefited from scientific advancements–to engage in sustained advocacy in the years to come."

We're off to #standupforscience2025 today!! Here's hoping for a decent turnout. It seems like my town is seeing a lot of protests these days and it's always about 200-300 people no matter what the topic, according to the write-ups on them.
