As a full-time occupation of its own there are not many #synthetists.
In #SciFi it crops up in #StandOnZanzibar by #JohnBrunner and #RiteOfPassage by #AlexeiPanshin the latter pointed out the need for another discipline, #Ordinology which I suppose is a blend of #library science and computation.

We can halve the global population in four generations (three if we limit lifetimes as well), that's unlikely to be popular or achievable without architecting an entirely different global society and then gulling those generations into thinking it's for the Greater Good.
We're currently adding another billion people every 12 years, the UN models the peak in the 2050's when it's around 10B. I doubt that will be pleasant. Only 250 years for Malthus to pay out.

Just finished the third season of #Westworld and I have to say, I was very impressed. The #DarkSideOfTheMoon slipping into the soundtrack at the end. And the references to John Bruner's #StandOnZanzibar #SciFi novel. They really did their homework.
