В статье рассмотрена проблема, по которой реплики с задержкой в применениии WAL используются не так широко, как могли бы. В PostgreSQL процесс получения журналов walreceiver запускается на реплике только после того, как процесс startup применит все накопившиеся WAL. Это не создаёт особых проблем, если процесс startup успевает накатывать полученные журналы. Проблема проявляется, если используется реплика с отложенным применением журнальных записей, например, на сутки. На мастере сутки будут копиться журналы и места может не хватить. Если процесс walreceiver остановится, то он не запустится до тех пор, пока не пройдёт время задержки, установленное параметром recovery_min_apply_delay . Команд ручного запуска процесса walreceiver нет. Получится, что сутки мастер копит журналы, только потом запускается walreceiver и начинает вытягивать журнальные файлы. Такое поведение нелогично, но его задокументировали: "When the standby is started and primary_conninfo is set correctly, the standby will connect to the primary after replaying all WAL files available in the archive. If the connection is established successfully, you will see a walreceiver in the standby, and a corresponding walsender process in the primary." Всё время, до запуска walreceiver, слот репликации на мастере удерживает файлы журналов. На мастере скопится много журналов и, если не хватит места, то экземпляр мастера подвиснет по нехватке места в директории pg_wal (или слот инвалидируется по параметру max_slot_wal_keep_size и реплику придётся пересоздать).

So I’m testing out #Ubuntu2604LTS on an intel #thinkpad T14 gen 4 and the standby battery life is atrocious. Went to bed around 10pm, closed the lid and when I woke up in the morning it was completely dead. Am I missing something. I thought newer kernels handled sleep and power settings better? This is borderline unusable.

➡️ Der #Standby Verbrauch des Hauses liegt bei ca. 6,5 kWh/Tag.
➡️ Das sind ca. 2226 kWh pro Jahr, was erschreckend viel ist.
➡️ Neben der ganzen #Smarthome Messtechnik, nuckelt die IT-Infrastruktur ganz gut was weg (WLAN Router, 24 Port POE Switch, 2x WLAN Hotspots)
➡️ 2015 hatte ich in der Mietwohnung mit 2 Personen einen Verbrauch von 850 kWh/a. Das sollte zu bedenken geben.
➡️ finanziell ist das Dank PV kein Drama, aber Energie ist und bleibt ein wertvolles Gut.

Es vergeht kaum ein Tag, ohne Artikel in den Medien, dass wir mehr #Stromspeicher brauchen. Was jedes Mal fehlt: Die meisten #Batterien sind derzeit falsch eingestellt und schaden mehr als sie bringen, weil sie zu früh am Vormittag laden.
Die 2,5 GWh Batterien in 🇦🇹 verursachen:
🔹ca. 100 MWh/Tag #StandBy-Verbrauch
🔹100-200 MWh/Tag (vermeidbare) #Ladeverluste
🔹verminderte #PV-Einspeisung genau dann, wenn die #Gaskraftwerke laufenDadurch treiben sie die #Strompreise künstlich in die Höhe! 1/4

Elektrische #Grundlast („#Standby-Verbrauch“) einer Wohnung/eines Hauses hängt mit der Anzahl der Geräte im Haushalt zusammen. #SmartHome-Lösungen tragen einerseits zur Erhöhung der Grundlast bei (für Sensoren und Aktoren), andererseits kann man sie damit auch senken (Automatisierte Abschaltung, Zeitpläne). Auf Null wird sich die Grundlast nicht bringen lassen, aber minimieren. Daher meine #Umfrage hier: Wie hoch ist die Grundlast in eurer Wohnung/eurem Haus? (egal, ob smart oder nicht)

Odd.
My Fedora 40 will standby, but not completly. The PSU is powered on, the power light lit but most annoying the fans of my Nvidia GPU are spinning.
Acording to messages, the system was not operating at all (no log entries from standby to wake).
Any clues?

I need a bit of advice guys. We had a power outage last night which lasted about 1.5 hours. The UPS did it's job in that it kept the NAS running as long as it could, but the NAS didn't safely shut down when the UPS got low on charge. Attached you can see the notifications that the NAS recorded, as well as the settings I have configured.
The NAS did power back on when the outage finished but is now doing a data scrub to check for any residual errors.
I'm trying to work out how I should change the settings so that the NAS will go into Standby Mode. Is it as easy as ticking the 'Shut down UPS when the system enters Standby Mode', if it is I'm wondering how I missed such as obvious option?
