The first buds and blossoms on a bouncing new baby #BottleBrush bush (#Callistemon viminalis). The cheery pink "bristles" are actually #stamens rather than skinny petals ("Callistemon" means "beautiful stamen"). The pollen-bearing anthers add a bit of bling to the tips.

This second image is a cropped version of the one above. You can see the #stamens covered in yellow #pollen well. Instead of putting the centre of the flower in the centre of the image, I’ve used the #RuleOfThirds to try to make it a bit more interesting, which has the added benefit of being able to fit an entire petal into the frame.

I recently bought a #MacroLens for my #camera and I’m experimenting with it. It’s second hand and so cost less than half the price of a new one. It behaves quite differently to the #ZoomLenses I have and so it will take time to get used to it. Here’s a #photograph of a #crocus #flower growing in the front #garden. I quite like the focus on the #stamens

This very vibrant and striking image is of lilies standing on a lush lava background. I have used digital art techniques to recolour the lilies so they are almost blue, with the stamens appearing in the same colour as the background.

Today there are roughly 20 clusters of Shasta Snow-Wreath in California.
