  1. @fvzappa I never knew Stallman and Moon wrote book together. I somewhat thought Moon hate Stallman, but forgot where I got this impression.

  2. Man, I love the GIMP
One second your just doing normal image manipulation and then you notice a "sphere designer"
Next thing you know you've made a Stallman sphere...

    A good book By Stallman

Richard Matthew Stallman (/ˈstɔːlmən/ STAWL-mən; born March 16, 1953), also known by his initials rms,[1] is an American free software movement activist and programmer. He campaigns for software to be distributed in such a manner that its users have the freedom to use, study, distribute, and modify that software. Software which ensures these freedoms is termed free software. Stallman launched the GNU Project, founded the Free Software Foundation (FSF) in October 1985,[2] developed the GNU C Compiler and GNU Emacs, and wrote all versions of the GNU General Public License.

  4. RE: mastodon.social/@yoasif/116412

Now, this actually sounds promising. Finally killing the dreaded #copyleft organically and rendering everything into #PublicDomain. Exactly the dream that #Stallman was envisioning originally - all the software should be free for everyone to use. What's not to like here? 😘

  5. My computer's hardware is proprietary unfortunately. I'm sorry, #Stallman.

  6. Ah yes, the age-old quest to make free software relevant by outsourcing our coding woes to AI agents 🤖. Because nothing screams "freedom" like letting #Skynet code our hopes and dreams while we vibe into oblivion 😂. Hey, at least #Stallman will have some new robot friends to rant to! 🥲

  7. CW: epstein, uspol

You know who isn’t¹ in the Epstein files?

    Richard Stallman!

    But somehow
he is the guy everyone warns about, even though what concrete complaints there are about him as a person can largely be summarized as “he is autistic as hell and socially incompetent”. (And we know that a lot of people desperately looked and were willing to openly spread slanderous lies in major newspapers…)

But apparently demanding socialism and progressivism while complaining that the appropriate term for someone like Epstein was “serial rapist” instead of the rather vague “sex offender” that the press was using at the time, really seems to get you a lot of hate by the same people who are now sanewashing the US government or pretending that 99% of the US democrats aren’t a big part of the problem…

Half of Silicon Valley was raping children on Epstein’s island, but instead everyone cares about the one guy in tech that has pretty fucking clearly done
    nothing of that sort.

(And no, this doesn’t mean that you have to marry him or even be interested in become his friend on a personal basis, he clearly is a complicated man, but that’s not what all the Stallman hate tends to be about!)

[1] Okay, technically his name occurs once in the acknowledgement-section of a published paper by Marvin Minsky (who was his colleague at MIT) that for some reason made it into the files; I think we can agree that this is as non-implicating as it gets…

  8. I know this is really old, but it still horrifies me to this day, and never fails to make me nervous-chortle in disgust (?)

The comments are a riot too.

  9. @fabio screw it I'm going to start `wget`ing my web pages like #Stallman

  10. @fsfe
Unfortunately, there are still massive potholes along the way...
Commercial(!) users should be REQUIRED to disclose their use of #FOSS and, ideally, also be required to donate to it.
Unfortunately, current developments in the GPL do not take this into account.
Because no matter what #Stallman says, commons MUST ALSO BE FINANCED! And to do that, we first need more #transparency about how it is used.

  12. I'm suprised to see a 100 on the Stallman Freedom Index (using the absolutely-proprietary project on GitHub) on Arch Linux. Looks like I removed microcode and firmware-related binary blobs.

Is this recommended from a security standpoint? I've heard that microcode is essential for CPU-level security.
