  1. Re-introduction:

In terms of classic recording equipment clones that I've built, I have a bunch of SSL, API, and Neve mic preamps, and I'm developing my own API clone with a friend for the 500 Series. Here are some hashtags:

  2. If you're into electronics and home recording, recording in general, or making, I've got a ton of projects I've built over the last 3 or 4 years all documented to varying degrees up here with hashtags.

    Here they are. Good luck.

  3. Finally got my SSL bus compressor working. It didn't work on initial power up last year and then life happened and it said on a shelf until I opened it up today and solved the problem.

  4. So the SSL Bus Comp is "finished."

Except I got a bad power transformer, and I can't tell if it's working properly until I replace that.

Gotta call the Transformer manufacturer tomorrow and explain how "no, I don't have a receipt for the unit, and I bought the kit from some guy you've never heard of in Denmark..."

Can't WAIT for THAT conversation! 🙂

At least they're in the US.

So for now, it's a very nice Doorstop.

  5. Got the XLR ins and outs wired on the rear panel, as well as the AC inlet.

  6. I now have all of the control board wired to the front panel controls. Still have to wire the back panel.

    Then comes the AC mains.

  7. I started populating the panels with stuff. I'll continue more of the build tomorrow.

  8. More progress on the SSL Compressor build. The boards are done except for one 3.9 megohm resistor that wasn't in the kit (he sent me 3.9 ohms). I can start assembling the metalwork and install that resistor when it gets here. Gonna take my time. No point in rushing.

  9. Making more progress on this build. Got most of the capacitors in and all of the semiconductors today.

  10. Geez, that missing resistor is only 6 orders of magnitude too small. That's pretty close.

  11. All but one of the resistors soldered into the boards. The missing resistor is 3.9 megohms, but the vendor shipped me 3.9 ohms instead.

  12. The look of a blank PCB staring you in the face.

  13. I put the main PCB for the SSL Bus Compressor in my soldering vice. I'll start decoding the shaky silkscreen and soldering when I get home.
