About 280 citizens of Sri Lanka are reportedly involved in the war against Ukraine on the side of the Russian armed forces. The Sri Lankan government claims that most of them were misled by promises of high salaries and non-combat roles. The recruitment is carried out by former military personnel of the Sri Lankan armed forces.
