✈️ Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird, legendarny samolot zwiadowczy, dokonał jednego z najbardziej spektakularnych wyczynów w historii lotnictwa 1 września 1974 roku, gdy pokonał trasę z Nowego Jorku do Londynu (5570 km) w zaledwie 1 godzinę, 54 minuty i 56 sekund. Osiągnął średnią prędkość 2908 km/h. W 1976 roku SR-71 ustanowił oficjalny rekord prędkości dla samolotów załogowych wynoszący 3529,56 km/h oraz pułap operacyjny ponad 25 900 metrów, gdzie większość rakiet przeciwlotniczych nie mogła go dosięgnąć.

After outrunning a Libyan missile in 1986 Major Brian Shul commented:
