So, the #Chinese #SpyBallon did not "collect" data, according to the Pentagon. Right, since it transmitted data back to base in real-time, it technically did not collect (as in store onboard) data. #semantic

After thinking a bit about the objects shot down over US an Canada, and are not Chinese spy balloons.
I’m glad that it seems not to be nefarious. But it made me think, how much “ballon junk” is floating around up there? What happens to it when it expires? How come this is not reported by commercial airlines all 👏🏼 the 👏🏼 time?

This whole epic saga of the suspected #Chinese #SpyBallon reminded me of the popular ‘80s song by Nena! In this song, 99 red balloons released into the sky cause a major response. Here’s some of the lyrics:
“The war machine springs to life
Opens up one eager eye
Focusing it on the sky ““Call the troops out in a hurry
This is what we've waited for
This is it boys, this is war
The President is on the line
As 99 red balloons go by”“99 knights of the air
Ride super high-tech jet fighters
Everyone's a superhero
Everyone's a Captain Kirk
With orders to identify
To clarify and classify”I think F-22 Raptors meet the criteria for “super high-tech jet fighters.” Here’s the video!

Okay, in continued #spyballon #drama, news reports keep making reference to an “enormous payload” (most recently, LA Times). What does that mean, pragmatically? What was this thing likely to have been carrying?
