  6. The company #RainBird can pound sand! If you update your mobile app to their v2.0 it will reflash your rainbird wifi module and not allow local access, forcing you to use their cloud-based BS. I'm done with them. Going the open-source route here and using the drop-in replacement opensprinkler.com/ . Works out of the box with Home Assistant too.

The systems use automated sprinklers and #dripirrigation to ensure scarce #water is used in the most efficient way and is not lost as run-off or evaporated under the blazing sun."

  12. If you're in SoCal: turn off your sprinklers! (woke up and found both torrential rainfall AND THE SPRINKLERS ON at the house I am staying at -- turned off now). #rain #CAwx #sprinklers

  13. I'll admit to having become a jaded consumer, so I'd like to take a moment to rave about the K-Rain fully adjustable lawn sprinkler nozzles I recently installed at my mother's house, via a recommendation by the app for the new #Rachio 3 sprinkler controller.

(My order through Rachio for 2 each RN100-ADJ-3PACK and RN200-ADJ-3PACK was drop shipped from K-Rain. One part was DOA, and they replaced it super quick!)

I put them on some inexpensive new Rain Bird 1800 sprinkler bodies, using the long-distance nozzles to replace some big old "tap-tap" style pop-up sprinkler heads.

These things are just a joy to use and to watch them work. Also, they're super quiet and water efficient.

  14. So #sprinklers are all working except one weird spur that dates back to the previous landscaping in the front, in a corner between the sidewalk and pavers leading to the front, by a major non-sprinkler feed line, and where the concrete of the sidewalk pokes out undergound an extra couple of inches. And tree roots. Oh, and there are ants.

    Of course.

And the sprinkler guys are booked out a month. And I *really* don't want to tackle this myself, dagnabbit.

  15. My smart sprinkler controller bit the dust. It was already on the way out as the touchscreen had been registering phantom touches last season and I had to disconnect that from the mainboard. This time around, the transformer failed and was substantially overvolting it which I think finally killed it. Lucky for me I had a spare, but it's an older version of the one that died and lacks a substantial number of features.

Sadly, I think Rainmachine is going out of business as they haven't had stock for over 2 years and tried to push an absurd subscription package on all existing users while taking away remote access. They really did make the best local-only sprinkler controller on the market. OpenSprinkler is the only one I can find that's similar, but the hardware looks like something a DIY enthusiast made in their free time.

  16. Repressurized the #sprinklers for the year. All in all, pretty good. Three minor drip line fixes to make. One break in larger line that I'll have to do some digging for.
