While not my cup of tea (it’s mostly political talk) they’ve found a core community and it works for them. Good.

I haven't mentioned Spoutible in awhile, because not much has changed. But..the news is that they are still there! Compared to other platforms that were building up around that same time, their longevity is unqiue.
Yes, it's a centralized platform. But they found their niche (lots of anti-Trump politicos) and created a home outside of Meta and X. I'm happy those folks found a community.
Their moderation options are interesting, too. Much more individual user control.

I wish I could leave it all behind and live on #Bluesky, #Mastodon and #Spoutible, but the issue isn’t me it’s everyone else. They’re drinking the KoolAid friends.

Spoutible joins the starter pack trend and adds shareable lists, calling them Community Bundles. An interesting aspect is that bundles are synced. If the author adds, removes or otherwise edits their bundle, the changes are automatically seen by anyone subscribed to it.

@zoltandulac @Lottie This is the second time I saw this topic in less than a week (the first was in Bluesky). I can't believe it's an issue. I for one find "AI" generated alt text useful. If I'm not mistaken, the #Spoutible community implemeted it in 1Q of 2024, including creating a summary for threaded posts.
And as mentioned, it's a good first pass.
Now I'm curious, how did this anti-AI alt text started? Who complained about it? What was it they're whining about?
Simply hating technology just because "AI" without understanding how it is used or can be useful, in this case #a11y , is just whining and noise. "Alt text" text don't even qualify under Copyright laws anywhere, so I can't understand why there are people complaining about it being used for alt text.
What did I miss?

Spoutible, a closed social alternative to X, has had a fairly recent upgrade that improves performance noticeably (Vue 2 to Vue 3, plus some "infrastructure" updates).
In addition, they are testing Threads cross posting to go along with their existing Bluesky and Mastodon versions.
The one feature that stands out for me on this platform (other than it STILL exists) is the pods feature - live audio chat rooms.

Messed around with #Spoutible for the first time today after seeing their CEO, #ChristopherBouzy (#cbouzy), mention Mastodon on Birdsite...
First thing I noticed was that the interface has a lot more random symbols for navigation. The post button is a water droplet, and there's whales and stuff that I don't remember what they do.
Scrolling through the timelines, it was basically a few ads and a lot of Democrats posting about being Democrats. I also saw, for the first time ever, people arguing vehemently AGAINST a maximum voting age, because I guess they would be cut off by it, and seeing as the suggestion is like 65 or 70 years old, I can only assume that they are at least in their '60s...
So that's my impression, that it's elderly Democrats.
I did notice that they let you hide reposts (echoes), which is nice, and they let you hide their algorithmic feed (splashback), which is also nice.
Still don't see any reason to use this for-profit #SocialNetwork over Mastodon though...

Because a #WhiteTechBro hated on #Spoutible so much, I'm going to give it a try. I used to follow #ChristopherBouzy on #Twitter. I found him to be someone who genuinely cared about the safety of #marginalised people on #SocialMedia, and actually tried to do something about it. Does anyone remember his work to kerb #bots on Twitter with #BotSentinel?

Firstly welcome to new folk!! We're happy you're here.
2) You made a good choice moving out of the corporate media silos. I want to explain why I think so, as I believe it'll shortcut you possibly years of lost time.
3) If you do choose another corporate silo, you will end up back here, trying to avoid the same problems but just escaping from the new corporate silo where you lost all time investment in 5+ yrs time.
Enshittification of corporate social silos is baked in. Twitter was on the decline path long before Musk. Disinfo, aggression farming, algorithms, ads. Many corp social silos have died or gone comatose already. Google+ Digg Myspace. All corp silos decline as they age. It's the same cycle happening to all the corporate silos, and yes that includes all the new shiny 'we're different this time, please come in to our enclosure' ones.
If it has shareholders, value to users will decline slowly then eventually steeply. 100%📉
Enshittification:
1] Offer free service to attract users.
2] Degrade user experience in favour of advertisers.
3] Degrade ad experience to capture value for shareholders.
4] Farm captive free work userbase. Farm captive sellers advertisers & businesses. They're being exploited, but don't want to lose their time investment & their social graph by switching platform. Extract bulk of value for shareholders.
This is the enshittification cycle. Every platform with shareholders slowly cannibalises it's user experience, it's advertiser experience & business user experience.
Musk is just a more visible data point on the enshittification curve.
Twitter is a 1 node silo, with enshittification profit pressures. This renders it entirely vulnerable to 1 or a handful of individuals whose concerns are profits, not users, let alone society.

#PInterest 1 node silo. Shareholders.

There is a Solution. You're looking at it. Fediverse or something with the crucial properties of Fediverse. Multi-platform, multi-node, migration enabled, user owned & operated, Free Open Source Software (FOSS).
Where users can migrate freely tween platforms & nodes, can run own nodes & can even create new forks of the software.
Fediverse has grown to 23,000 nodes. It connects millions of users. Using 30-40 social platforms already.
No ads.
No algorithmns.
No microtargeting.
No promoted post ranking.
No centralised conversation shaping.
No VCs.
No CEOs.
No shareholders.
No corporate profit drive.
Best moderation I've seen in 40yrs online.
