For some reason, #October always reminds me of spooky movies... no idea why.
So, quite uniquely I imagine, we're about to start our annual #80s #horror #movie marathon #Spooktacular.
We'll be picking from this grotesque line up... and having done this for many years, we've more than exhausted the "good" bad movies and we're well into the "actually bad" bad movies. I anticipate some stinkers.

Movie five was Dark Night of the Scarecrow, a 1981 made for TV revenge flick.
A bunch of vigilante rednecks murder an innocent man with mental disabilities. He's disguised as a scarecrow at the time... yadda yadda, agricultural vengeance.
It wasn't terrible, but it was pretty slow, and nowhere near enough scarecrow in it. The low budget was obvious, and rural California isn't the spookiest place.

Movie four was Demonoid, and boy does this movie poster oversell how much nudity is in this film!
It's a film about a demon that possesses the left hand of its victims, then... erm... does possessed hand stuff. Also goes to Vegas for some reason.
It has a plucky leading lady who takes the violent death of her husband and the revelation of supernatural entities entirely in her stride... and an Action Priest.
It's not very good, but it is strangely watchable.

A British sci-fi horror film about a space shuttle expedition that discovers an alien ship full of space vampires, then lets them loose on London.
Surprisingly good, if a little long. Very British, it even had Patrick Stewart in it, but always fairly interesting.
There was enough gratuitous nudity that I expect it was a formative experience for many teenage boys!

Fickle fate gifted us "Curse of the Blue Lights" next in our #Spooktacular.
See how the poster makes it look at least vaguely competent? Nope...
Bad audio. Bad lighting. Terrible acting. Terrible effects. Terrible story. More logical inconsistencies than an Escher painting.
Shockingly bad... but oddly enjoyable, if just to count the ways it was terrible.

First #Spooktacular film was The Entity from 1982. Unlike most of the bilge we'll watch today, it was actually a real film, with a real star in it: Barbara Hershey.
A single mother begins to experience ghostly visitations that are, honestly, pretty harrowing to watch. She confronts disbelief, exploitation, finally acceptance as she attempts to rid herself of the spook.
Overall, a pretty good film that hit the ground running quickly (maybe a little too quickly).

Nearly time for this year's #Spooktacular, an act of cinematic self-harm where @teahands and I randomly select terrible 80s horror movies from a smorgasbord of mediocrity, then subject ourselves to them for 12 hours or so.
This year's selection is especially stinky. We've been doing this so many years that anything half-decent has been long since watched, and anything left is, well, "Dark Night of the Scarecrow".
Wish us luck, we'll need it. 🎃
