In the past few weeks, I noticed again how the #bicyclebubble and #linuxbubble overlap based on the profiles of people tooting about #SPEZI2023 or the #Brompton #foldingbike.
There were two unforgettable #reallife events which have proven that:
Maybe two decades ago I met @ericpm (founder of the https://fairvelo.org/ #cargobike #bikesharing) at #LinuxDay Dornbirn where we noticed that we both drive #recumbent #bicycles.
Years ago I met @framstag at #SPEZI. He wore a "Unix is sexy" t-shirt.

Artikel über die #SPEZI2023 in #Lauchringen in der heutigen Ausgabe vom #Südkurier für Waldshut-Tiengen.
Leider passte der Artikeltext selbst mit Kürzungen von redundanten Aussagen ("Cargobike" und "Lastenrad" in derselben Aufzählung 🙄) und als Worte ausgeschriebenen Einheiten nichtmal zur Hälfte in die Bildbeschreibung. 😒

Final words about #spezi #spezi2023 – I found it great to see such a range from highly polished and professional manufacturers like HP Velotechnik and AZUB Bikes to smaller, more crafty operations like Castro or Bends to the utter weirdness of Reiseradgabel topping out in a couple of inventors and enthusiasts who seem to be there only for the fun of it, without any imaginable path towards commercialization – a microcosm of nonconformism in the most nonconformist corner of #bikeCulture

My #SPEZI #SPEZI2023 highlight: riding the Hase Pino #tandem with my wife. I’ve never had as much fun on a bike, and the unique geometry makes conversations so much easier.
But holy moly, the top of the line model we test rode costs 11k+ – I could buy a #Velomobile for that. Maybe I’ll buy a used one and refurbish it over the winter -
@oliverweinrich: Ja, also viel mehr Aussteller passen nicht mehr in die Halle, obwohl es ein klarer Platzzuwachs gegenüber der #SPEZI in Germersheim war. 🤪 Bin gespannt, wie's weitergeht. Zumindest über die Lage von #Lauchringen ganz im Süden von D waren wohl nicht alle happy. Aber dafür gab's ja selbst Aussteller aus Spanien, trotz aller Sprachhürden. 😍 Ich fand die #SPEZI2023 jedenfalls sehr gelungen. Auch wenn ich nach den 2 Tagen selbst als Besucher kaputt war und Blasen an den Füßen hatte.

@maybeabattist: Only once tried (successfully and easily) unfolding the rear fork of the #BrauCycles #Cargobike. That was very #Brompton-like. Currently the cargo bed ist just a frame. Had the side bag of my KMX trike strapped to it. They said they tested it with 90kg load, but 70kg is the official (or recommended) maximum. Over 50kg load is said to make driving more difficult. A friend told me that he had similar load level experiences with the #Omnium. #SPEZI #SPEZI2023 #SPEZI23

@ch_Nahon @maybeabattist: #BrauCycles is at #SPEZI this year! I did a short test ride on it! Riding feels rather different compared to a #Brompton despite many (small) Brompton parts (fasteners, gear switch, etc.) being used. You can push it with the folded-in rear wheel. In comparison to the Brompton it does not block in that position. And it has 20" wheels and a stand at the size of and below the cargo bed. #SPEZI23 #SPEZI2023
