Just played through the demo on Steam and this game rules. I a great mix of pick 3 slop, Surviviors game play, #Spelunky like maps, and a cute art style. After a couple runs I had to stop because I knew this game would be a instant pick up on release.

Also TIL you can earn cheevos in a demo

Picked up this very cool Boss Fight Books bundle from Humble. Especially interested to read the Metal Gear Solid, GoldenEye and Spelunky books (the latter of which is written by the dev which is really cool!)

I'll say though (and not trying to be hyper critical here) the cover art on these aren't ideal. The GoldenEye one is actually the deluxe edition which has different cover art (I'll need to update it manually), but as a whole these are all very uninspiring.

I know they're probably stock/public domain images and the production budget probably isn't massive for these books, but surely a few more people might be drawn in to buy these full price with some more appealing covers!

That's a nitpick though - excited to read through them all!

#UFO50 released today! It's the long-awaited next game from Mossmouth (creators of #Spelunky.)

They describe it thusly: "UFO 50 is a collection of 50 single and multiplayer games that span a variety of genres, from platformers and shoot 'em ups to puzzle games, roguelites, and RPGs. Our goal is to combine a familiar 8-bit aesthetic with new ideas and modern game design."

And all these games were supposedly made by the same fictional company. Can't wait to dive in!

The thing about Spelunky 64, a reimplementation of Spelunky on the Commodore 64, that gets me is how smooth the scrolling is. Smooth multi-directional scrolling isn't easy to do on the C64 without hardware assistance, but here it handles it without apparent problem. Here is a 7-minute demonstration from Just Jamie:

Even better, I accidentally killed a shop-keeper, so the entire run was run-and-shotgun! I probably could have tried ascending Tiamats Throne, but I didn't have Quilin.

Also... nice.

Es ist so unendlich lustig, wenn ich #Spelunky spiele und dabei den Doom-Soundtrack höre.

Meine kleine lila Person mit Brille und Peitsche erkundet die Levels und im Hintergrund dröhnt:

None could stand before the horde but the Doom Slayer"

Finally beaten Olmec just shy before 1000 games !

While it's drawning in lava I just have to get up from the hole I digged to defeat it and exit the Temple for the first time.

Only a Snail on my path, with one life left. But either I hit it too near ot it shoot a poisonous bubble. Died while defeating the final boss by the most humble minion. Never happened before in a game. ever.

There should be a life lesson there somewhere. But too busy swearing now.

#Mario is the first game I remember, as in the Mario / Duck Hunt combo cartridge on the original NES. I think I had been exposed to video games before that, but this is the oldest memory I have of actually playing games.

#BeyondGoodAndEvil was probably the first game I fell in love with. I still adore that world and the characters within it.

#DJHero - Both the first and second games were some of the most fun plastic instrument games I've ever played. I wanna play them again someday, but I need to repair my Xbox 360 first.

#ROSEOnline was my first ever MMORPG. It has a cute style and was simple to play. I still have fond memories of it.

#Shantae and the Pirate's Curse was my first Shantae game and I immediately fell in love with the character. She is one of the few characters I adore in video games.

#EuroTruckSimulator2 was one of the games that showed me I can enjoy simulators and work games.

#Spelunky - This is the game that showed me I could enjoy rouge-likes/lites. Since then I have played many more games in those genres.

Fantastic play from the start.

12 hearts, 50 bombs, shotgun, cape, compass, pitching glove, dripping confidence. Just 2 stages from Olmec (never beaten yet). I decide to kill a Mummy, get on its back and shoot once just while it turns around and vomits insects that slowly stun and deplete me of all life one by one.
