  1. Outlining a new podcast episode on weeds and the Victorian language of flowers.

Can't place "Speedwell," so I go digging, and it's:
    - Veronica spp, a mat-forming weed I pull up
    - been used as a cure-all tea since the Romans
    - edible
    - everywhere because our Victorian forebears loved it in their gardens.

    🤯

What else don't I know about these mundane-yet-amazing plants?
Anybody got a favorite Speedwell fact or myth?

  2. Reminding myself what spring looks like 🙂 Germander Speedwell (Veronica chamaedrys), I think, taken on my phone back in early May '22 #Wildflower #Speedwell | #Kent #England

  3. I took a cutting of the Japonica plant. I also took a cutting & 2 seed heads from this plant - Veronica pinguifolia - which is native to NZ but popular with landscapers here on Vancouver Island. It produces multiple, gorgeous, small white flowers in Summer. Their seed heads are pretty too.

  4. Two types of #speedwell for this week’s #WildflowerHour challenge: germander and thyme-leaved speedwell

  5. Happy #MiniMonday one and all. To kick off how about this #Speedwell replica 1962 #AustinMini with 1275 Cooper S spec motor? Groovy baby - miniphernalia.co.uk

  6. What a gorgeous blue!

Speedwell in the bank beside the path speeding us on our way - although it was slow going: the path was very rocky and uneven! All the better for stopping to look at the flowers

  7. Thyme-leaved Speedwell (Veronica serpyllifolia)

Thyme-leaves Speedwell is another naturalized import from Europe/Asia that we found this morning growing in a grassy path. Too nice to overlook and my soul is saved by the fact that native insects happily exploit the flowers.
It really is tiny, those flowers are a bare 6cm across. The plant grows in full sunlight, tolerates partial shade, and thrives in a moist environment during the spring.
