  1. The last known caterpillar that could have become a Sacramento Mountains checkerspot butterfly has died.

The term for an animal that is the sole survivor of a species is endling. In a sense, we are all endlings—each the last of our kind.

The loss of a species is not simply the loss of a biological category—it is the loss of countless unique individuals and their collective potential.

Huh thats weird I must have skimmed and misread your message earlier I have removed my favourite

Humans are animals a species of great ape, and non-human animals are people, they are thinking feeling intelligent creatures with preferences memories, they feel love and grief and for the most part like to play and relax and be with their families same as humans they want to live free and without pain. We all bleed the same.

Anti-Speciesism is the idea that access to rights shouldn't be determined by circumstances of birth beyond your control like what species you were born as.

Talking just land mammals a population equal to the entire human population is killed every couple months. Statistically it was more likely you would have been born a chicken of whom billions are killed every year.

Its not fair thats the crux of it, and I invite you to provide a trait that humans possess that for example chickens such that if chickens possessed it would suddenly make it wrong to kill them for your own sensory taste pleasure

    @stephaniewalter

Carnism and speciesism mirror foundations of ableism in that individuals are ranked based on the value their bodies can provide to the oppressor class that extracts value from them.

When pigs develop mental illness from confinement and bite eachothers tails off they cut out teeth and tails at birth with no anaesthetic[1]

When pigs dont grow fast enough they kill them in the cheapest way possible sometimes by whacking them in the head with a hammer whatever is cheapest and quickest

When pigs develop infections due to unsanitary cramped conditions they kill them

When breeding pigs stop performing their breeding duties they kill them

The commercialization and objectification of bodies as money making objects is a central foundation of patriarchy, ableism, racism, colonialism and speciesism.

If you think that humans are uniquely justified to enact this objectification against pigs I would direct you to the soutrces in the above post and ask why why are pigs worth so much less than humans that their one chance at life and their entire experience is worth less to you than a 15m meal.

I maintain a glossary of speciesist words and phrases, here are some of the worst ones

    •Animal (Pejorative)
    •Treat like an animal
•Animalistic (assuming non-humans have much less complex inner lives)
    •Human (adj.)
    •Human decency
•Dehumanize (Other animals shouldn't be treated in a way one might call "dehumanizing" a less speciesist word would be depersonalising as in "to act as if someone has no personhood or to take away someones personhood" or deindividualizing)
    •Inhuman
    •Humane
•Inhumane (insulting to non-human animals and even backwards when humans treat other animals especially the ones they extract resources from so badly, in this light "human-like" treatment is probably the last thing most cows pigs chickens ducks turkeys geese & fish want)
    •Subhuman

  5. CW: Hot Take: Vegans/Vegetarians

And this isn't me trying to make a statement for or against #AnimalLiberation, just an acknowledgement that they have a really strong point that goes against an ideology (#carnism/ #specieism ) that is so ingrained into us from birth that most people have difficulty even beginning to question it.

It's a whole thing that's way too deep and nuanced to say it in 500 characters.

  6. NY became the 10th state to ban the sale of cosmetics tested on animals after Gov. Kathy Hochul signed a measure into law Thursday evening. The law, known as the New York Cruelty-Free Cosmetics Act, prohibits the sale, manufacturing of cosmetics that have been tested on animals. The law goes into effect Jan 2023. Virginia, CA, LA, NJ, ME, Hawaii, NV, IL and Maryland have similar laws per Humane Society of the US cnn.com/2022/12/18/us/new-york #AnimalTesting #AnimalRights #AnimalWelfare #specieism
