Maker fight! #SparkFun cuts ties with #Adafruit in #harassment dispute
Adafruit claims SparkFun aims to shoot the messenger for criticizing corporate tolerance of intolerance
Retailer SparkFun last month said it would no longer do business with electronics kit-maker Adafruit, citing violations of SparkFun's Code of Conduct during online interactions.
Adafruit says it's being punished for demanding an end to harassment attributed to SparkFun's founder and a former employee

Ah, the thrilling saga of tech titans squabbling over a Code of Conduct! 🤡 #SparkFun drops #AdaFruit like a hot potato, because clearly, nothing screams professionalism like a playground-level tiff. 🔥 Meanwhile, their site navigates like a labyrinth designed by someone who hates users. 🤦♂️

Fans of Adafruit may recall a couple of months ago that one of the key people at the company made a series of posts on social media (including Mastodon and BlueSky) that looked awfully like online harassment. Besides some unprofessional stuff like name-calling, there were more serious accusations such as transphobia and doxxing.
Now, it seems there's been a falling-out between Adafruit and SparkFun Electronics. SparkFun has taken things seriously enough that they've ceased their business relationship with Adafruit. Here's the Official Response from SparkFun, citing a direct violation of their Code of Conduct:
https://www.sparkfun.com/official-responseThis is bad news for Adafruit, since SparkFun is a major supplier of electronic components, tools, and devices. SparkFun also manufactures their in-house range of products, as well as having the scale to manufacture products for other companies such as Teensy. It's potentially fatal for Adafruit to get cut-off from SparkFun.
The response from Adafruit has been confusing. Rather than explain how or why they destroyed their business-relationship with SparkFun, they made a public statement announcing they'll soon cease selling Teensy devices: "Discontinuing the Teensy at Adafruit" (https://blog.adafruit.com/2026/01/12/discontinuing-the-teensy-at-adafruit/)
To make matters even more strange and confusing, Adafruit announced they're making a Teensy-knockoff^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^hcompatible board.
But, surely the most bizarre twist is this same individual from Adafruit has gone onto the Teensy forum to advertise their new products meant to compete with Teensy: https://forum.pjrc.com/index.php?threads/open-source-teensy-compatible-what-features-do-you-want.77584/
I think it's fair to say that Paul Stoffregen, who runs/designs/engineers Teensy, has shown remarkable restraint since being dragged into this drama and having it jump tracks and go careering outrageously onto the Teensy forum. -

SparkFun Retired Products Archive Reference
In late 2024, SparkFun Electronics relaunched their website. They deleted roughly 20 years of archived product information, along with all associated datasheets, schematics and tutorials. Luckily, the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine has good records of the site, and I was able to recover links to 5934 deleted products. So here's the list:
https://scruss.com/blog/2025/03/13/sparkfun-retired-products-archive-reference/ -
SparkFun were great at keeping all of the product details for their retired products on their website. But that's all gone with the redesign.
If you've got some old SparkFun kit, you're going to be relying on the Internet Archive a lot now.

Anyone have an old #SparkFun RED-V board collecting dust in a drawer?
I'd be happy to pay you for it (including shipping). Feel free to DM me.

TIL about the SparkFun SerIO board. This now-discontinued product is an even-simpler-than-Arduino physical computing device. When connected to a USB port, it appears as a serial device. Send it simple commands at 57600 bps and it will read/write pins for you. For example, this configures Pin 13 as an output, and sets the value high:
> C,13,1
Pin: 13 Input/Output: 1
> W,13,1
Pin: 13 Value: 1This lights the 'Stat' LED

Arduino Nano Matter.

The RP2350 is a pretty exciting little microcontroller, but dang it if the new board from #sparkfun isn't a pain to use. I've installed the Raspberry Pi Pico tools in VSCode, but each deploy requires unplugging and plugging the USB cord with the tiny boot select button pressed on the board. And I can definitely deploy code, but I don't seem to have access to the serial debug console. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, but it's not obvious.
-
Pleased to see that after a heroic bit of sleuthing on @tannewt’s part, #CircuitPython audio seems to work great now on #RP2350. Maybe I will have something for #CircuitPythonDay2024 using it! The #SparkFun Pro Micro format is so nice
-
Look at these beautiful little RP2350 jewels.
Can’t wait to start hacking on them!
Looks like they run the Pico2 build of #CircuitPython just fine!

@todbot Yup ... ordered two of 'em! I also ordered two of the beefy Pimoroni ones but those will probably sit in Heathrow customs for a few days like everything else Royal Mail sends me.
I think given the bigger RAM and flash and more powerful processor I'm going to learn MicroPython.
-
Oooo SparkFun has a new RP2350 Pro Micro available right now, w/ 16MB flash! https://www.sparkfun.com/products/24870

I made a goofy big mouth for the XRP robot a few days back, along with a cupcake for it to eat. But don't be fooled by its look; this is a robust actuator designed to move objects during competitions !
Model available (with source files) available at https://www.printables.com/model/960355-bigmouth-a-simple-item-grabber-for-the-xrp-platefo
-
Two different add-ons for the XRP robot that make no sense whatsoever to be put together, yet they fit oddly well.
About the mouth/eyes mods: I am still working on it. I hope to show the final model next week.
-
So I've got a #SparkFun weather module I've been running #MicroPython on for a couple of years. It's almost perfect and I'd leave it alone except that:
* MicroPython doesn't support power management *facepalm*
* MQTT has been the Achilles heel on this project, and when something goes wonky in a few places it utterly misses what's going on and can't reset itself against @homeassistant so it juat kinda disappears.
Sooooo close
So I'm doing a quick rewrite into #ESPHome and accepting that I was only mostly successful on the original code.

Some new parts arrived, probably hard to see in the picture, but I got a 5v to 3v level shifter for the #sparkfun #qwiic connector, a few qwiic connector cables (various types, but mostly qwiic to grove. or qwiic to dupont). This was all so the person sensor and the #M5Stack stuff could place nice together. I also picked up a M5Stack Univ V M12 #camera w/fish eye lens, a couple #Lilygo T-OI Plus boards (#ESP32 C3), a Lillygo T-Display S3 board.
