  1. gentoo lowered sparc support :-(

    "hppa and sparc destabilized: Since we do not have hardware readily available anymore and these architectures mostly fill a retrocomputing niche, stable keywords have been dropped for both hppa (PA-RISC) and sparc. The architectures will remain supported with testing keywords." gentoo.org/news/2026/01/05/new

  11. Today I had #Nim bootstrapping the compiler on an IBM Z aka zSeries/zSystems, #sparc64 , HPPA and powerpc. It already supported x86, ARM, #riscv etc. Not many other languages are portable to such extent.

    The build farm provided by Debian was instrumental.

  15. TIL that #SPARC64 is still being developed and manufaturered, and is fully open and royalty-free.

    If #SPARC is an open ISA, why don't we hear more about it, and see more hobby projects featuring it?

    Oh man, both manufacturers are/have already discontinued it :blobcatsad:

  20. /me crying... I didn't knew #sparc64 stations firmware download needs paid support from Oracle. And I bought those from ebay.... Any way to get around this? (I have a T2000 and a T3-1)

  22. I have a #sparc64 with 4 disks. I want to install #OpenBSD on raid0 on all disks.
    Sadly I currently get
    ```
    installboot: realpath: No such file or directory
    Failed to install bootblocks.
    You will not be able to boot OpenBSD from sd4.
    ```

    How to partition/disklabel a sparc64 to boot from raid0?

    I already tried to create a 1 GiB RAID1 + remaining RAID0. Same error.

    Did already read man.openbsd.org/sparc64/diskla and man.openbsd.org/softraid.4

    😦

  24. Do I have any #sparc64 friends that would like to help me port #dlang to sparc64?

    I believe there is only one remaining blocker, but I don't know enough sparc64 assembly to do it right I don't think.

    Boosts welcome.
