  3. "Octavo Día" is a song by Colombian singer Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll from her 1998 album *¿Dónde están los ladrones?*. The song is written in Spanish and explores themes of spirituality, faith, and the search for meaning. The title translates to "Eighth Day," which is a reference to the biblical creation story, where God rested on the seventh day, and the eighth day could symbolise a new beginning or a day of reflection.

The lyrics of "Octavo Día" delve into the complexities of faith and the human experience. Shakira sings about the struggle to find answers and the search for a higher power. The song is introspective and contemplative, reflecting on the human condition and the quest for understanding and purpose.

The song does not necessarily dismiss religions as untrue or as mere fantasies. Instead, it seems to explore the personal and often challenging journey of faith and belief. It touches on the idea that people may turn to religion or spirituality to fill a void or to find meaning in their lives, which can be interpreted in various ways depending on the listener's perspective.

Here are some key points from the song:

    -
Search for Meaning: The lyrics reflect a search for deeper meaning and understanding in life.
    -
Spiritual Reflection: The song encourages listeners to reflect on their own beliefs and the role of faith in their lives.
    -
Personal Journey: It highlights the personal and often introspective nature of spiritual and religious beliefs.

    Overall, "
Octavo Día" is a thoughtful and introspective song that invites listeners to ponder their own beliefs and the role of faith in their lives, rather than dismissing religion outright.

  7. More accordion sheet music arranging, starting to lay down the notes for Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez. I'll mainly be working out all the extra harmonies and chords on my squeezebox though. This is the first time I've used my compact MIDI USB keyboard with my new Mac laptop.

  8. #MusicMonday! Probably not what you would expect from me if you followed this series so far, but this week it's "Aguilera" by, well, #ChristinaAguilera. 😄 I love how varied the album is and how effortlessly it includes so many different Spanish music genres. Unfortunately, that also makes it extremely hard to pick a favorite. 😔 Fuck it, I'll admit it: It's probably "Pa Mis Muchachas". I'm so mainstream, haha!

  9. Musical Interlude: Spring is when we start thinking about our gardens, or about whatever gardens we have nearby....I know I've felt a yen to visit various botanic gardens in the area.

Manuel de Falla is a composer I came to late; his "Ritual Fire Dance" is so familiar it's a cliche, really, but I decided to delve deeper into his works and found lots of gems in a very individual style. Here's a great piece...

"Nights in a Spanish Garden," composed by Manuel de Falla, performed by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Placido Domingo, with Daniel Barenboim on piano.

  10. Still in recovery - #flu day 14! - but managed some #accordion play. Including starting to get to grips with Aranjuez Ma Pensée by Rodrigo ("Orange Juice" from Brassed Off), and enjoying playing loads of #Disney tunes, improvising harmonies. Excerpt of Orange Juice attached. Early days but encouraging progress, having figured out what I want to do with the bass side. #Squeezebox #OrangeJuice #ClassicalMusic #GuitarMusic #BrassBands #SpanishMusic #Films #Movies #FilmMusic #MovieMusic #DisneyMusic

  14. Here's something to send you into the weekend with a smile: A Tiny Desk concert from Spanish singer Omar Montes. He melds flamenco and hip-hop as he sings and raps over the beat of clapping hands, telling his story as a child of Roma heritage growing up on the streets of Madrid.
