👨‍🚀🚀 In 1984 #NASA #astronaut Bruce McCandless II became the first person in #history to fly untethered in #space using a nitrogen-powered jet pack.

He navigated over 90 meters (300 ft) from the #SpaceShuttle Challenger to demonstrate how #humans can move independently in a vacuum. The flight provided data on orbital maneuvering that helped engineers develop systems for satellite retrieval and repairs.
