Raumpatrouille (Space Patrol) was a short-lived scifi tv show from germany, that aired in 1966 and was released very shortly after the Star Trek premiere in september of that year. The main space ship was the "Orion". This is a first test render of a modern interpretation I did a few years ago in Maxon&Redshift and now converted to #Blender. WIP.

I want to know more!
I did not know this existed nor its marionette predecessor Space Patrol. (Nor that the marionette version was released as Planet Patrol in the US. Not sure it ever got to Canada, that was pre cable.)
Does anyone know if there is a version out there with French dub and subtitles? Or just English subtitles?
The early to mid 1960s really were a period of experimentation with science fiction television production everywhere. I can see why this live action version became so beloved with cult status in Germany.
I like the strong presence of women in command (which US network NBC wasn’t ready for in TOS). I can also see how fans of this show in Germany and France would seen Star Trek as similar and be a natural audience for the Trek franchise.
Looking it up, I can see now that some of the experimental video techniques in the 1975 Canadian show ‘The Starlost’, which integrated minaturized sets with live action soundstage overlays in camera, have a direct predecessor in Space Patrol Orion. Would be interested to know what German fans would think of ‘The Starlost.’

Joking aside, I think you're right. I had never heard of #SpacePatrol either, but after reading about the series, and its astonishingly creative and talented producer, Roberta Leigh, I AM A FAN.
Roberta Leigh, born Rita Shulman to poor Russian Jewish emigres:
😮 Wrote over 160 novels: romance, childrens, sci-fi, murder mystery.
😮 Produced 8 TV series for children, 7 using puppets, and 1 live-action series.
😮 Wrote almost all of the episode scripts herself.
😮 Space Patrol was an international hit and the highest-rated childrens' show of its day. It served as inspiration for many including #Babylon5 creator J. Michael Straczynski.
😮 Composed the music for many of the TV shows, and created much of it herself using electronic equipment and found instruments. In addtion to writing and playing music for other projects.
😮 Was also a successful oil and watercolor artist with exhibitions at several galleries.
😮 Wrote a column for the Daily Herald.
😮 Made the time somehow to have and raise her son Jeremy.
