  1. In the interest of starting to play in this sandbox, I set up a stationary LoRa Reticulum node in the office today, using a Heltec v4 freed up by my home openHop migration.

    Good times.

  2. SpaceX email to Canadian regulators maps out some of Starlink's plans for "next-generation" direct-to-device (direct-to-cell) satellites/service.

SpaceX indicates it will begin launching its next-generation spacecraft in "late 2027" and by the end of 2028 will have "thousands more satellites" in space.

Success depends on a BIG caveat - consumers will need to purchase next-gen mobile devices! pcmag.com/news/starlink-mobile

    Coming Soon! TheTechAptitude newsletter techaptitude.substack.com/ is planning to post a detailed overview of Starlink satellite broadband service - stay tuned! #Space #SpaceX #Starlink #SatelliteBroadband #Internet #SpaceInternet #Direct2Device #Direct2Cell #TechAptitude #Mobility #MobilePhones #Satellites

  3. Starlink claims its first corporate victim. Satellite broadband provider HughesNet goes Chapter 11.

Hughesnet has lost over half of its subscriber base since Starlink first launched in the US as a beta in late 2020. In its Q2, it lost 59,000 subscriber to get to a total of 622,000 and they do not expect this trend to reverse.

The plan being developed is to focus on enterprise, government, and defense customers and move away from the consumer market. pcmag.com/news/with-subscriber #Space #HughesNet #Starlinl #SpaceBroadband #Internet #SpaceInternet #SatelliteInternet #Satellite #Chapter11 #Bankruptcy

  4. Battle of the Titans Brewing in the Satellite Direct 2 Device (D2D) Market

Research Boffins @ mobility market trade associations are calling bullshit on SpaceX predictions of a Total Addressable Market (TAM) reaching $740B for its Starlink Mobile direct-to-device division, countering that the true TAM is more like $15B.

Further, they are flagging that US mobile operators are forming a joint satellite venture to reduce reliance on external providers (SpaceX) and retake gain control over the satellite layer, and at the same time move towards neutral-host, shared infrastructure models. Stay tuned to the space! satnews.com/2026/07/06/the-big #SpaceX #StarLink #Direct2Device #Space #SpaceInternet #Mobile #Satellites #Networks #Internet #NetworkInfrastructure #Neutral_Host_Model

  5. Someone get a match and let's light this candle!

SpaceX is gearing up for flight 13 of its Starship heavy lift space launch vehicle - possibly tomorrow July 16 @ 6:45 p.m. EDT.

Mission parameters are equivalent to the previous Starship launch > it is 65minute, suborbital flight, and will attempt to 1) execute a controlled soft splashdown of the rocket booster in the Gulf of Mexico, and 2) deliver 20 operational Starlink satellites into orbit.
