Heyo! I'm back from my mini-stream-vacation! Hope you've been well! I'm doing a stream of a new game tomorrow, SPACE HAVEN, which you can catch at 6:30pm PST tomorrow, 08/13! It's a fun sci-fi crew game that's a lot like Rimworld! Hope to see you then! twitch.tv/kahtide #spacehaven

So, I didn't want to wait out researching any offensive weapons in #SpaceHaven and decided I'd just risk scouting the slavers system for their base.
Halfway through the system, I lucked out by finding a sector where the fleet could mine a resource they needed to resolve a crisis. I'd encountered another one at the end of the "tutorial" part, but it had a bug (?) where when I jumped away before they finished their turns mining, it never completed, and I never got my reward.
I jumped the fleet over, and then of course, three turns before the fleet was done mining, slavers showed up. Rather than risking the same bug, I made a save game and decided to stick around to see how bad it'd get. Somehow I fought off two waves of boarding parties without any of my crew dying. (Advantageous positioning and crouching helped a lot, as did the weapon skills I developed through fighting all those aliens on derelict ships.)
With all slavers dead, there were two new derelict ships, filled to the brim with goodies. More than I have storage space for! Oh, plus a slave which I freed who is now wandering around on my ship as a refugee.

Doh! So I finally - after endless days researching - discovered and built an advanced assembler in #SpaceHaven, which is capable of making TechBlocks, my main bottleneck for constructing pretty much everything I want on my space ship.
What I didn't see is that actually making TechBlocks requires a crew member with 6 Industry. I mean, that makes perfect sense when you think about it thematically, but so far everything I did with Industry required just 1, so I simply didn't pay attention. The most Industry anyone on my crew has is 3. And that's also where it's capped for all of them - except for the one new crew member I just dug out of a cryo chamber, who has 3 but can develop until.... 5!
Looks like TechBlocks are going to remain a bottleneck for a while to come. That'll make my decision on whether to build a third Point Defense Turret or a Shield Generator or a Composter a lot more fraught. (Except it must be a Composter as soon as I've researched it, as I'm already out of compost, and food is kinda essential!)
Wheeee!

Whew, one of my crew members in #SpaceHaven _barely_ scraped by after being attacked by an alien parasite while sleeping, then having seizures with spores coming out of her body, and not being able to eat for many days. I lucked out that she was well fed when this started happening, so the starvation wasn't too bad - as only a single day later I ran out of food other than root vegetables, and people started resorting to cannibalism.
But, with the spore eruption over (I was waiting for the other shoe to drop and being overwhelmed with alien parasites leading to game over, but it seems it's really over now), and my botanist finally gaining enough skill to grow fruit, I'm slowly becoming more self-sufficient. Now just to find enough TechBlocks somewhere to build a machine which can produce TechBlocks...
I feel I've gained a new understanding of why this game was tagged with "survival". *g*

Playing #SpaceHaven at harsh difficulty level and spending all my time faffing about rearranging the cabin walls might not have been the very wisest course of action. I figured I was safe, as I'd already researched the ore processor so could just make myself new fuel, but didn't think about the tech blocks I'd need for the extra engine needed to deal with the extra mass (plus had to spend the last one I had in stock repairing another engine, as I already had too much mass). I really hope I can scrounge enough from the derelict here - or some ships come by which have that for trade - otherwise this could be game over.

I took entirely too many days remodelling my spaceship in #SpaceHaven, but finally my crew get extra energy and mood through having private bedrooms (they work in shifts, and share the rooms, but at least no longer at the same time).
Now maybe I should think about exploring some more and taking care of those dwindling resources. Though obviously only after I've made the ship symmetrical again. One does need to have proper priorities, of course! :D

I finally started playing #SpaceHaven for real. My first attempt, shortly after its 1.0 release, was swiftly - and it turns out, unjustly - abandoned, as the tutorial looked overwhelmingly large at a point where I really didn't feel like dealing with such a thing.
It's indeed a large tutorial, but almost completely because it breaks out individual tasks into tiny chapters, and you can move through them quite efficiently. I didn't time how long it took me, and I skipped the final few chapters as I felt I'd gotten the gist of things, but in any case, nothing excessive there.
So, I'm now very happily rearranging rooms inside my very own space ship and watching the hours tick by. The comparatively huge walls - each as wide as a bed, rather than taking up effectively zero width along the edges of the grid - trip me up a lot with planning out things, but I'm sure I'll get the hang of it yet. And I adore the pixel art style. I'm very early on in the main game, barely having started on the main quest, but so far the game is giving me the vibes of a cross between the good part of Rimworld and FTL, without most of their difficulty and annoyances.

Recent video game hyperfocus:
Space Haven! It's pretty much the game I've been looking for, wholly recommend it.
One part ship builder, one part exploration, one part resource management.
In Space! With pixel art!
I've been playing it on a less stressful "builder" setting to get into it and it's been scratching the itch. Easy enough to play forever or put down when life demands.

I'm in space!
And I accidentally have been in space the entire night, building.
I was outside for hours yesterday and when I got back I was going do the last of the tutorials which I had been doing for days and then take a very quick look at the space station mode of #SpaceHaven.I am pretty weary and hurting but haven't been sleepy at all the entire night, once I sat down I was too comfortable to move.

I just bought #Spacehaven on #Steam. Opened it. And closed it again. This UI design from hell (note the scroll bar in the text box at the top, the box contains only 6 or 8 lines of text). I'm over 50 and my vision is impaired. I suppose nobody in the dev team is over 30... Yeah, I know, it's #EarlyAccess but common!

I want a game like #Cosmoteer or #SpaceHaven, but with multiple z-levels (like Prison Architect 2), and space exploration in three dimensions.
I want to make actual multi-floor ships with objects that span several floors, power, life support, water and sewer. Build cruisers, corvettes, and colony ships.
That would be awesome.

We're trying out a new game today, Space Haven! It's like Rimworld in space! At least from the brief glances I've seen. Also, FNAF later! Streaming at https://www.twitch.tv/ra_zim

As far as I can tell, the optimal #spacehaven ship design is a sort of rectangular flying pizza box, because the game just has one isometric level and the size of your ship is determined by some (large) grid squares, making a big box that fills all the space the most efficient thing.
Anyway, that's boring so I think I'll try to design a flying horseshoe crab of a spaceship. If I shorten the tail spine it will be close to a flying saucer which should *almost* fill the allotted ship box?
-
In lieu of anything useful, I started playing #SpaceHaven, a spaceship building colony simulator where you fly around, mine asteroids, salvage wrecked ships and make your own ship better while trying not to starve to death, be killed by robots or eaten by space cannibals.
I named my starting crew after the #Papergirls characters to make them more recognizable, and thus had to extrapolate what skills each of them would have as post-apocalyptic adult astronauts.

Ich habe mittlerweile 100 Folgen #SpaceHaven alpha17 aufgenommen und das Spiel fesselt mich immernoch - vielleicht ja auch was für die*en ein*e ist andere*n von euch. Hier ist Folge 100:
