Zoon Phonanta, Cobra Killer

Berlin trio Zoon Phonanta celebrate the release of their sophomore album "Emergency Lies" with a special Album Release Show at Neue Zukunft on September 20th.

Excitingly, the very very special guests are Berlin's legendary electronic art-punk duo Cobra Killer, who will play their first show in almost 14 years!

Emergency Lies is released on Sep 18th on Bronzerat Records (Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Solex) and is a fearless and restless trip through propulsive krautrock groove, big beat electronica, oscillating cinematic horror, hook-laden post-pop and beyond. It features a guest appearance by Cobra Killer on forthcoming single "Mantra Man" - so it was then decreed that the duo re-emerge from the shadows for this special show.

Other guest appearances include A.S. Fanning, on post-punk diss banger "Badcats" which is already released as a single, and Gemma Ray on the mesmeric synthpop of "Run For Your Money".

"Dim Diolch", also taken from the album, can't be listened to here, and is (according to the band) 'the worlds first vocoder-sung, Welsh-language, krautrock hipshaker'.

A bit of shopping at Alt & Neu today turned up two albums from 1978.

Omega's Csillagok útján is just amazing. Seriously one of the top space rock bands ever, with the added bonus of the lyrics being in Hungarian. Snappy dressers too.

Ganymed's Take You Higher on the other hand is some pretty formulaic Austrian space disco with some of the worst lyrics on any planet anywhere. Some very odd choices in the mixes too.

Ah, the band did split following the last album after all. Still had some recorded works in the vaults from those sessions though, so here's what's essentially a b-side to "Chemical Chords".

Actually, I like this one more. Getting back to some weirdo electronic sounds and lengthy experimental jams, plus a taste of #SpaceDisco! I hear why they wouldn't fit on the previous record, but having taken in the bulk of their catalogue now, this is the Stereolab lane I prefer.
