  1. Active Travel Hubs Concerns

Vision King's Lynn has announced that "Work is advancing to the next exciting stage to deliver two new Active Travel Hubs in King’s Lynn to promote healthier, greener, and more cost-effective travel into and around the town centre." KLWNBUG had not seen the plans for more than a year, so we ask: Are they primarily for Active Travel? Are they even Travel Hubs? Won't they fail like the two pilot cycle hubs? Why haven't we seen the plans in over a year? Let's explain each concern in […]

  5. @NorwichCycling do #ActiveTravelEngland know?

And the whole 'Cyclists Dismount because it's narrow' is absurd and illogical, as someone pushing a bike is wider than if they're riding it! Two people pushing in opposite directions there will probably be at risk of one of them falling off the kerb.

  7. A week to go on this junction improvement consultation and I've sent in a pro-cycling response. Please do if you can too:

  9. I updated several Discussion threads for King's Lynn and West Norfolk Bike Users Group on #Cyclescape following yesterday's meeting but there's still more to do when I have time. Any help welcome.

  11. This is a huge danger to Norwich's Blue Pedalway but I have to trust @NorwichCycling to keep an eye on it, as there is already too much going on in west Norfolk for me.

Huge £200m Norfolk road scheme WILL go ahead after being spared government axe

  13. @NorwichCycling it's effectively not even 2m wide because #LTN120 says to take off sides as a safety margin, so lose 0.5m for the kerb drop and it looks like 0.2m for that lamppost and hedge that are too close to the track, so effective width is 1.3m? 4 lanes for cars, not even half a lane for #activeTravel. Yet again #NCC #fail to implement their own policies and offer no #space4cycling

  15. @TimWardCam and I'm saying they used 12mph because the #space4cycling was too poor to support higher. Not that we should use 20mph for modelling. If the routes were 20-avg-safe, I'd expect an achieved average of about 14. I know the current reality is that 12 is good in England, with many places barely passable at 10, with so many riders forced to wait at the kerb, in the firing line of pollution and errant drivers, waiting the maximum permitted time for toucan lights to give them priority.

  17. @TimWardCam that gap between the 12mph your council used for modelling and the 20mph-ready cycleway they were told to deliver should have been a scandal. However, I suspect 12mph is faster than most could ride most of the rubbish labelled as #space4cycling by English councils.

  19. #WestNorfolk #PlanningApplication #2401914F #Emneth service station with much bigger shop yet still no #cycleParking (or access from #space4cycling but there are other properties in the way). I'll suggest #KLWNBUG requests parking.

  21. @Nicovel0 I think that's a shame and going too far, but it is too complex, the #NCN is unreliable and police considering cycling on A roads too risky should be a big scandal. Good government would respond by making #space4cycling. I wonder if our next one will. France has definitely overtaken us lately.

  23. That's a new sign. There's three of them at the north end of the #A10 #cycleway where illegal lorry parking has been a problem. Wasn't on my top ten #space4cycling wishlist but we'll see if it helps. I'll ask #KLWNBUG if anyone knows why they've appeared now.

  25. #Fenland #PlanningApplication #FYR220844O #Wisbech off Stow Road. Cambridgeshire CoCo still asking good questions. #KLWNBUG should make similar objections. This could be a useful new route to/from the Smeeth but this development will also turn the #A47 Broadend Road crossroads into a roundabout which could be good or bad #space4cycling

  27. #WestNorfolk #2301510RMM #Watlington #PlanningApplication is a missed opportunity that forces all walkers and cyclists out onto the busiest road in the village, making it three sides of a square to the school and 3½ sides to the rail station, instead of providing a simple link to the cycleway that runs along the west (top in this plan) edge of the development. Total #space4cycling #fail. I expect #KLWNBUG will comment but the more the merrier. Comment on the link at www.west-norfolk.gov.uk

  29. Interestingly the access statement says "Access to the area will be by foot/cycle" which suggests the no-cycling signs will finally be moved back to the bollards into High Street, or possibly a decent #RailToRiver and #TownToQuay #space4cycling route provided at last.

  31. I barely know where to start with #WestNorfolk #2301497F - The #Purfleet former #cycleParking area replaced with sheds, tables and chairs. And planters that could easily be cycle-parking planters if there was any political will from #VisionKL to help #space4cycling. #KLWNBUG

  35. @cabd and of course it's the more necessary half nearest the centre which is terrifying. Same #space4cycling problems in most places. #WestNorfolk and #NorfolkCoCo are currently spaffing money up the wall on motorist-friendly edge-of-town projects while the final links into #kingsLynn town centre remain broken and there is nowhere near enough cycle parking to meet modal shift targets
