I watched videos on the website, read directions several times and went for it. I watered the straw and attempted to press it all down as well as I could. I don't have a lawn roller. I guess I could have put down plywood and walked on it, over and over!
Will water again in another hour.
This blend is a mixture of annual, biennial, and perennial wildflower/pollinator flowers.We shall see!

On March 3 as an experiment, I snipped off native plant seedheads from outside, and sowed them whole in some pots. I didn't remove any chaff - no cleaning.
I then put soil on top, protected them from animals with mesh, and put them outside in the snow.
Curious to see if the seeds somehow manage to germinate. Could this be a lazy but successful form of seed collection?

I am sowing so many native plant seeds that I might get either a dozen seedlings - or a few hundred (*gulp*).
-Pussytoes (ground cover)
-Anise hyssop (mint family)
-Nodding onion (animals don't like the smell - take that, squirrels!)
-Hairy beardtongue (only 2 ft tall)
-Blue vervain (purple spikes)#Seeds were provided by a local group. We'll meet in a few months to re-pot seedlings, trade plants, donate to community projects.

Although I live in a big City, I have a large balcony/terrace and an allotment box nearby. So I have lots of vegetable seeds. Itching to start sowing but freezing rain, means window ledges and stopping the cats from being over curious

I'll be winter sowing plenty of native perennial seeds, hoping to get more Lance-Leaved Coreopsis/ #Tickseed (Coreopsis lanceolata). Picture from June.
I like #coreopsis because it blooms for a long time, it's drought-tolerant, and its nectar attracts #butterflies and #bees.
The only downfall: it needs a lot of deadheading. It is not low maintenance in that regard.
But it sure is gorgeous, and I need more!
