@leanderlindahl After beeing in #jolla #sailfish land for 2 weeks and had #eos #murena on #fairphone 6 for 6 months….

I prefer currently #eos mainly for those reasons (now) even when sailfish would be my choice of heart and I will reevaluate in 12 months again …

Fairphone 6 with murena 4.0 (not using google services)
0) Ux seems currently a bit better on fp6 ( productivity)
1) more often software builds (since they are Android fork) / faster updates
2) all my important apps (password mgr, banking, government) run since 6 months (… lasted 6 months to get them to work)
3) the community seems more professional and less „emotional / hardcore“
4) nfc payment works

What I really liked about sailfish:
0) Less to no ties to the google / apple universe
1) the ui seems more focused and less nagging
2) the hardware of the new Jolla phone at least for me feels much better (even if it is midrange)

Bottom line: both worked well, BUT sailfish has some Android app compatibility issues still (can not set a security pin on the app / Android universe… therefore many apps refuse working), if critical apps work I give it another try.. (

Und obwohl es für mich einfach Community-Engagement ist (tja!), ist Chatto vermutlich das wichtigste Projekt, das ich dieses Jahr begleite - auch als Enterprise Architect und Unternehmensberater.

Das ist sehr konkret so, aber auch auf der Meta-Ebene. Das Ding ist gut, und es demonstriert zugleich ein paar wichtige Dinge.

Und mit 80 MB Executable ist es wirklich sehr, sehr einfach, auch mal sehr schnell kompetente Kommunikation aufzuziehen.

Codeberg e.V. asking members to vote on various topics is such a breath of fresh air.

At a time when commercial services seem to a) only make their services worse and b) put their own interests above those of their customers, Codeberg a) takes a stand on important topics such as vibe-coding and discrimination and b) asks members if they agree with the proposed changes before they are implemented.

Feels almost too good to be true.

The #fediverse is part of The EU Open Source Strategy outlined in [1]:

From the document:

"Support uptake of open source alternatives to proprietary solutions together with Member States and the Digital Commons EDIC — cloud, workplace tools, secure e-mail, decentralised social media."

I like that it explicitly says "decentralised social media". They are not simply calling for European alternatives to centralised social media services, but demanding theses be decentralised as well. Very nice.

Anything that may help the MEPs swe for themselves that digital #sovereignity actually works, may encourage them to go further with sovereign cloud and tools.

I noticed today that #MSOffice Online now has an option to save files as #odt instead of #pttx. It made me wonder, can we change our files at work to open formats and still have the MS using colleagues use them properly? That would be a great step :awesome:!

Sadly, it seems not. Saving in MS Office breaks a lot of design in the files. Opening the pttx in @libreoffice works perfectly fine. Saving from there as odt does as well. But then MS Office considers the working odt file "corrupt", disallowing online view.

Seems like MS Office their implementation of open document standards are still lacking, so for anything requiring collaboration with MS Office users we're still stuck in proprietary formats. Sad :blobcatverysad:.

Any other leader, anywhere on earth, cannot say No to America. They aren't leaders, they are puppets of US.

However you feel about Khamenei, seeing someone say No to America, and having their country emerge stronger for it, is beautiful.

My takes:
- Nextcloud has a tiny team w.r.t. for example Microsoft.
- If you can change for 80% of your users, that is a big step forward w.r.t. waiting for the perfect solution to be available. Definitely when M365 suddenly is 100% unavailable due to whatever reason.
- If you do (partially) switch to Nextcloud, that's also a big revenue increase for Europe.
- They already roll out 100.000 desktops a month.
- No, it is not 1:1 identical. But, neither are your shoes when you buy new ones. Some parts will be different.

When talking about #european #sovereignity, let's not forget #letsencrypt. When the USA wants to, they can simple stop signing certificates.

The idea and objective of European digital #sovereignity has taken giant leaps towards mainstream during past week. Suddenly everyone is concerned and talking about it.

There is no turning back any more. As long as #Trump is president there is not much US tech can do even for damage control.

Dear @mozilla. I really appreciate your Webbrowser Firefox. What i am missing ist the option, to add a custom AI-chat to the sidebar.

Right now there seems to be only support for: Anthropic Claude, ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Le Chat Mistral and, starting in Firefox version 143, Microsoft Copilot.

We develop AI solutions for the public administration, that are self-hosted. We would love to see the option to add such custom chats - maybe only like in ms edge browser as a webbpage - to the sidebar of firefox.
