  1. CW: NZ - Sovereign citizens and guns

The NZ Police manual has been updated. In future, officers who encounter sovereign citizens and learn they hold a firearms licence are to refer the individuals to the Firearms Safety Authority for review.

Furthermore, "... where an officer suspects an individual represents a security threat, they should contact the National Security Group at the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet."

The days of treating cookers as harmless cranks are ending.

  6. Dezi Freeman killed by police in Victoria's north-east after seven-month hunt
    abc.net.au/news/2026-03-30/vic

"Sovereign Citizen" fanatic, Dezi Freeman, has been found and killed by police. I'm not a fan of the police shooting people dead, and would have preferred they arrested him and put him on trial. Sure, you could argue the community is safer without a murderous, gun-toting, SovCit on the loose. To add to my concerns, I think he's going to be mythologised by SovCit folks as a hero who fought the system and went out in a blaze of glory.

Back in August last year, Dezi Freeman evaded arrest at his home in Porepunkah on allegations of violence, some possibly of a sexual nature, and some possibly involving children. He shot at the police and killed two. For the last seven months, it was suspected he was hiding nearby and receiving help from family or friends. Despite the media suggesting he was experienced with hiking and the outdoors, and the shit that Preppers like to claim about their skills, there's a practical limit to how well a human can live in isolation.

  11. CW: Surprise! Wanaka cell tower arsonist is a Sov Cit

Daniel Miller, 41, plasterer from Albert Town has been charged with five counts of "intentionally damaging a cellphone tower or telecommunications infrastructure by fire." They've got him for the Lindis tower as well.

But this cooker is a sovereign citizen who ignored the judge and kept speaking over her. She muted his mic.

When she gave him another chance he claimed he was not Mr Miller. "I’m a living man standing in my natural state."

Remanded in custody for trial in April.

  16. Three sovereign citizens walked into the Dunedin courthouse yesterday and demanded to see a judge. It turned out they wanted to sue the court.

Naturally court staff weren't very helpful, so the three locked themselves into a room and refused to come out. Twelve cops arrived and arrested them.

The trio, aged 48-62, will appear in Dunedin Court charged with trespass and refusing to provide a DNA sample. The 62-year-old was also charged with refusing to supply photograph and fingerprints.

Dumb conspiracies really don't apply in the real world. FAFO.
