OUTKAST - Stankonia

This blew a lot of minds when it dropped, but for someone who was just getting his feet wet in the world of hip hop, this *really* blew my mind. Talk about an introduction to a group!

Geto Boys release their third LP, “We Can’t Be Stopped”This was my intro to this band. In my various circles, no one was really into these guys. Closest thing was Ice Cube's debut, and the NWA album.
But I worked in an independent record store at the time and this album would constantly sell out, getting more popular every month or so, mostly by word of mouth. Geto Boys never got radio play (even college radio) or on MTV, but they were hugely popular.
Best track is about mental health. “Mind Playing Tricks On Me”. And of course there’s the super violent, outrageous lyrics throughout the album, plus the shocking album cover, all of which play into the fears of anyone who took rap way too seriously at the time.
