  1. From 14 December 2025, pay as you go (PAYG) with contactless cards and devices will be available at 30 more National Rail stations in South-East #England. However, the rollout at 20 additional stations, including #Stansted and #Southend airports on Greater Anglia services, has been delayed until summer 2026 after testing revealed system faults. The issues mean passengers at these key airport stations will continue to rely on traditional tickets for several months, highlighting challenges in integrating rail fares with #Transport for #London systems. Rail operators stress the delay is necessary to ensure reliability, but it underscores persistent technical hurdles in modernising ticketing.

  6. Contactless tap-in, tap-out ticketing will be extended to 50 more stations across south-east #England from 14 December 2025, including #London #Stansted and #Southend #airports. Backed by £18.7 million in government funding, the upgrade will allow passengers to use bank cards or devices instead of paper tickets, offering simpler, more flexible travel. The Department for Transport says the move will modernise rail ticketing ahead of the creation of Great #British #Railways, which aims to streamline fares nationwide. #Transport for London and train operators including Greater Anglia and South Western Railway have welcomed the rollout, saying it will improve convenience for millions of travellers, particularly the 6.7 million annual users of Stansted #Airport.

  9. Although I guess its legally correct, #squatter doesn't seem like the right word in this case in #Southend #Essex - it appears the Council or some other group has provided #housing for vulnerable people, who were then invaded by hard #drugs dealers and bullies who trashed their house and even attacked one of the legitimate residents (bringing the #Police to the building and getting the whole lot locked off)

  10. St Columba's footprints, found on a rocky outcrop overlooking the shore at the southern end of the Kintyre peninsula near Southend. One footprint is ancient: but it is said that the other and the (wrong) date were added in 1856. More pics and info: undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/sou
