"SAA posts R252m profit
This is the company’s first positive bottom line in over 10 years.
South African Airways (SAA) has recorded a net profit of R252 million for the 2022/23 financial year, marking its first positive bottom line since 2012.
Group revenue soared 183%, from R2 billion to R5.7 billion, while Ebitda swung from a negative R1 billion in the previous year to R277 million. This is the first fiscal year of commercial operations since SAA exited business rescue and resumed flights in September 2021.
The airline achieved positive equity of R4.7 billion and completed its final repayment of legacy debt, leaving it debt-free. Interim CEO Professor John #Lamola said the results reflect the airline’s progress toward financial sustainability. [...]"

The future fleet idea is for 50:50 widebodies versus narrowbodies. That is looking out to the financial year 2028/29. We have a history as a widebody operator with access to those long-haul markets. It’s a differentiator for SAA.」

This is a nice #tripreport on a domestic #SouthAfricanAirways flight from #CapeTown to #Johannesburg.
My many, mainly intercontinental flights with them have mostly been a pleasure before #Covid and the few ones I took after they restarted their ops have been pleasurable, too.
In my experience, they have always compared favourably with international flag carriers like #Lufthansa, #Swiss or #BritishAirways.
