  1. #AucklandNZ - Free #LoveFoodHateWaste #Matariki workshop – Glendene

    Saturday, 11 July 2026
    11:00 am - 2:00 pm

    Glendene Community Hub
    82 Hepburn Rd, Glendene, Auckland

"Matariki is a time to celebrate with #kai (food), gather, and reflect on #TeTaiao (the environment), making it a perfect opportunity to practice #sustainability by reducing food waste. Join Wei for this Love Food Hate Waste – Matariki workshop. Bring a few vegetarian soup ingredients such as herbs, garden produce, or simply veges in your fridge that are edible, just looking a bit tired. Together we will make a warm hearty soup to share.

We will be learning about each #whetū (star) and ā rātou tohu o te taiao (their environmental signs); Reflecting on the knowledge of kai we have each learned from our own ancestors. Practical advice about how to be creative with your fresh food and leftovers will be given, to help them last longer. Making the most of the food we have helps save money and is better for the environment. We will play a few games and sing waiata together to consolidate our learning.

This is a hands-on activity. Please bring your chopping board, knife and your taste buds along.

Please inform Wei [email protected] if any food allergies need to be accommodated.

This Love Food Hate Waste workshop is proudly supported by Auckland Council and delivered by #CompostCollective.

    Space limited. Booking is essential.

Register this workshop today to celebrate #TeTauHouMāori (the #Māori #NewYear) with us.

  6. Ground beef, browned, with red & yellow onions.
Fresh tomatoes diced & cooked (instead of using canned tomatoes).
Cooked ground beef & onions added, with assorted beans, to the soup pot. Needs to simmer for an hour before I add more ingredients. 35 minutes left on timer.

  11. Update on the soup. Apparently carrots need much longer at 185 than butternut squash. Fortunately I can hold it at that temp until both are ideally done. Unfortunately I’m eepy 😂 #soup #soupmaking #soupposting

  16. Making some chicken soup today and because I’m extra, I’m cooking the beans, vegetables and chicken separately at different temperatures with the beans on stove, the chicken in the sous vide at 155. Then I’ll do the vegetables with the beans at 185 and add the chicken back in. #soup #soupmaking #soupposting

  21. I met this wonderful #Japanese woman who was telling us that in her culture, most soup stocks are made with fish parts & seaweeds. She wanted to learn how to make different types of soup stocks that aren't as common in her culture. I loved talking to & working with her 😊

There was 3 of us POC women at the soups stock making workshop. Me, this Japanese woman & my Indigenous friend, Jada.

  31. Since I couldn't sleep. I am #cooking some #Chinese #herbal #ChickenSoup. Perfect for Autumn soup season. A hearty, tasty immune boosting, traditional Chinese #soup.

This #recipe link is similar to our family's version but we never use green onion or any other onions in ours - it's not needed. I always add extra goji berries because I love them. I used a small, whole chicken, to make a large pot of soup for my family to enjoy ☺️
