#SoundScan made the alternative era of the early 90s possible. The industry was suddenly forced to accept irrefutable data showing that fans were buying music that they hadn't been promoting. They didn't know what to do and so radio started to experiment. More stations played a mix of genres and new artists. I was lucky to have that be the years of my life leading into high school, probably when most people get imprinted with their lifelong musical taste. #GenX
