  1. #introduction time!

Hi, I'm Bea. I seem to be leading a highly squiggly life that's led me through a wild range of experiences, has, at this point been going on for Some Time, and fortunately shows no signs of stopping yet.

Currently, amongst other things, I'm a #coder, a #boater, a #music obsessive, and a #cat mama, plus I #parent a non-zero irrational number of other humans of various ages in this, my sandwich era.

    I've also been a #soundEngineer, a #teacher, a professional #psychic, a #theatre technician, and so on. I'm a #Londoner, a lapsed #Glaswegian and a recovering #NewYorker.

I'd list more specifics, but honestly they change all the time; two of the rare constants in my life are #singing and #bass, though I'm increasingly surrounded by a constellation of strange instruments; physical and digital, musical and nautical.

I'm also a #vegan (for the animals) #trans shapeshifter practising #nonMonogamy, and am gay for girls of most genders and apparently now the occasional boy. If this feels like rubbing it in your face, feel free to move your face.

I have an overdeveloped sense of justice, but only compared to your average late capitalist human, and the kind of highly spicy brain you'd expect from, uh, well, all of the above.

I'm afraid things are likely only going to get weirder from here.

No TERFs, no SWERFs, no cops, no Tories (or any other forms of fascism).

    Warning! contains multitudes!

  2. #Teacher #SoundEngineer

My day yesterday. Guiding my student AV crew through rigging and running the primary school gig.
    3 outdoor stages.
    10 radio mics.
    30 channels of sound.
    1 rehearsal.
14 hour day, zero complaints, hit every cue.
I am proud of what these guys do (as is the school!)

  3. Woohoo!!!! This is pretty cool. Adrian Sherwood’s The Collapse of Everything has been named in Mojo Magazines top 25 albums of 2025 at number 9! And the only Indie release in the top 10!!

Why do I care? Well I spent many, many hours as engineer/programmer on the record. Chuffed to bits to be honest. I may never have my name on a hit record but very proud to have played my part here, especially seeing as this is tinkering around the experimental edges of Dub, it’s far from a mainstream record. :80s:

  4. Any #soundengineer folks on the fediverse?

My partner's excited to dabble in professional voice acting (she's a professionally trained theater artist and teacher.)

I have a decent starter budget of $500-1,000 and would love to know the areas to splurge!

    - Mic: pretty sure about the Rode NT1 to start
    - Interface: The Focusrite Scarlett Solo is recommended anywhere, but if it's worth splurging I might get the MOTU M4 or Scarlett 4i4
    - Cables: It's been a minute since I was in A/V, but I know quality cables matter. Open to suggestions!
    - Sound-proofing: we're going to start DIY, I imagine we could sink some cash here if we wanted to. We have a closet that we can drape and dampen pretty easily

Open to all thoughts and suggestions!

  5. Depeche Mode
    #dm #depechemode #music #musicians #soundengineer #mixing
Guys, iyamm going crazy: in Never Let Me Down , in the chorus, is Dave's vox mixed with a quiet track of Martins??? I was tripping out to it and it just sounds like. It feels so big because of that - i think so. Am i right? What is going on there?

  6. Anyone seen a #puredata or #max implementation of a Dugan-style automixer? I’ve used one on both Yamaha TF1 and Midas M32 and they do make a lot of sense when doing sound for panel discussions, etc with a good number of open mics. A bit disappointed DM3 doesn’t seem to have one. Thinking my RME UCX II with the ADAT mic preamp would ace this use case with Max for #Ableton. #soundengineer #sound

  7. In addition to #MusicWomenWednesday let it be #SoundProducerWomenWednesday 🎉

Imagine recording a rock band in a cooling tower of abandoned nuclear power plant. How cool is that? (pun intended) Acoustics are just insane!
