@DenOfEarth @dan the #e_Niro ‘s “Prioritise Off-Peak” setting just randomises start time irrespective of if it could fully recharge within cheap rate time. It’s more than doubled the cost of a month’s charging 🤬
Luckily D has been doing most of the miles between houses with her beautifully dumb #SoulEV

@wheeljack first gen #SoulEV gets close. Save for lcd dials. No LSD but it hasn’t got enough power to need one. Traction control takes care of slip by cutting power. Absolute hoot to hoon anyway 🤣

@autonerdery currently shopping for a new car for D.

ANYTHING of colour 🌈🦄🏳️‍🌈 is better than the sea of grey white and off white on offer.

She’ll probably keep the Smurf #SoulEV because she can find it in car park! 🙄🤣

@DenOfEarth there used to be another local Smurf (white roof over blue) #SoulEV and we always had a big wave or flash and smile from the driver 😁
but haven’t seen it/her for ages now ☹️

@dan lucky my #e_Niro was built just about at the change point to new logo. All the big ones are old style KIA with new NIN only on glass and some castings.
The #SoulEV is late ‘90s Toyota quality inside, while the #e_Niro is 2000s Ford 😬

The #SoulEV is on Pirelli CINTURATO ALL SEASON SF 3 which have fantastic feel in all conditions. This IS probably why I love driving it so much. Very confidence inspiring.

And the #e_Niro is on oe spec Nexen (only because they were 1000 miles old when I bought the car) which I don’t trust in any conditions, but especially so in cold damp conditions 😬👍

@serichards @ZeKik I’d absolutely not want a BEV without fast charging.

First gen #SoulEV are pocket money cheap here and would probably exceed your requirements if ya can live with its looks.
It got CarPay for the 2018 30kWh battery update. It’s an absolute hoot to thrash about in, it’s much slower and softer but more comfortable and predictable than the i3s. Ours still has 6 months warranty remaining. It’s a keep until it dies car.

Is the #e_Niro too expensive?

@DenOfEarth @vwdasher #SoulEV has just had to have its rear calipers unstuck at 6.5yo. #e_Niro has rusty rear discs at 4yo.

There wasn’t much salt used on roads this winter either I probably don’t use them hard enough to dry them out

I must really ❤️ these two cars. Two baths in less than a month!!

It’s the first time in 3 months I’ve felt up to doing anything strenuous, it’s been a crap winter of virus, infections and asthma.

I now understand why people chase winter sun.

… it’s on Nexen tyres which are fine (same as I had on Airtrek coincidentally) but lack feel in the wet (or I lack confidence in them) it took a year to dial myself into the #SoulEV so give me a year and I’ll pass final judgement on the Nero 🤣

Good question. Very similar.

the #SoulEV is lighter, less powerful, and has much more weight transfer & roll as you fling it into a corner. Its suspension is cruder but you can feel what the tyres are doing ALL the time. More through bum than steering wheel. It also has “much” better tyres. It’s FUN to hustle.

The #e_Niro is more COMFORTABLE and isolating and therefore perfect for 450 miles of motorway. I haven’t dialled by bum into it yet it usually takes a few months …

We’ve had the #SoulEV over a year and not had any real problems with the local public charging stations. I think my apprehension was needless There are so many choices now.

I even managed to charge again on the Ionity charger at the hotel and they have needed my wife’s intervention when I’ve tried them before 🤣

Rugby is a bit off route this time 👍

@vwdasher less than summer … but the range indicators in the #SoulEV is pretty realistic… but it falls to 90 miles at 0 deg C with climate on and driving normally it’s more like 140 in summer

I haven’t driven the #e_Niro enough to comment yet … range indicator said 240 miles at -4 … will report back 👍

I got a notification that the Qashqai had passed its MOT a couple of days back. It is already at a dealer the other end of the country. It’s up for double the price WBAC paid for it. Good luck to ‘em.

… We chose a 2018 #SoulEV with the only compromises being the 100 mile winter range and only just big enough boot. We have only had to use public charging three times in a year

But year on and we are back in contact w/ daughter 100 miles is only just enough to get there and back so we considered chopping in the Soul
for an Gen 1 #e_Niro which although dull as ditch water meets our requirements perfectly.

The only problem was we couldn’t let go of the Soul…

@vwdasher @autonerdery @slirt you might not believe how much I enjoy chucking the #SoulEV about. It might not be fast but it’s very entertaining on its new top quality all season tyres 🤷‍♂️ I’m happy with my two car and a van solution 👍

Drove behind an #EV Porsche and an #EV BMW this weekend in my humble #SoulEV . All very encouraging though my daughter reports that in a show of hands in her geography class, she was the only one with an EV in the family. And they’re so good…

New to me car collection day has arrived.

We had horrendous rain last night and a storm is expected tomorrow but the sun is out at the moment ☀️

First the dogs are going to the vets for their monthly arthritis jabs.

Honestly you can’t enjoy driving on the roads (safely) any more than I do absolutely driving to the limits of the #SoulEV now it’s got top notch non eco chasing Pirelli CINTURATO™ ALL SEASON SF 3 on it.
They are the first upgrade I’m gonna do with the Niro

@serichards yep, I still haven’t got comfortable with the #i3 unlock, turn it on and off and lock procedures … #SoulEV is more obviously simple to operate probably because of keyless entry and start

Test drive done and deposit left RYC the #e_Niro will be mine 🥳

… just as soon as I can get shot of the Qashqai. Hopefully one of the local traders or national buy your car places will come up with a reasonable price as the dealer wouldn’t even make an offer 🤷‍♂️🤞

At least the dealer experience was sooo much nicer than Daughter had with THAT car supermarket in Leeds.

We had a good discussion and have come the the conclusion we can’t part with the #SoulEV it’s just too quirky and fun. I can’t believe how attached we are to it after 14 months.

But we now have enough in the car kitty to trade the Qashqai for an #e_Niro … unless the MD (wife) changes her mind about things before I do a deal 😂

We went to have a good look at the #e_Niro today and we loved its practicality and features. And it looks quite nice in dark blue in a grown up respectable kinda way. But it’s just so dull after the #SoulEV especially on the inside.

So we have lots of thinking, number crunching and Soul, or E_Nero, searching to do 🤔

Ok #EV #weirdautos peeps, recommendations please.

We don’t think we need 3 vehicles and we are thinking of keeping the #Roadtrek #CamperVan and chopping in the #SoulEV and Qashqai.

Absolutely top budget is £20k so 4+ top spec 30k mile late e-Nero seem the obvious target and we are going to look at one tomorrow hopefully.🤞

Unfortunately X-Power MG4 are still just out of budget (and too big and wide IMO) but is there anything more fun or #weirdcarmastodon that we should consider?

I think the S is worse but it’s definitely not a supple ride. It’s the polar opposite to the #SoulEV and I love both 👍🤣

Lady couldn’t be bothered to return her trolley And the rest of the car park is pretty much empty. So she put it right in front of the #SoulEV blocking me in while I was sat in the car with the dogs.

#Roadtrek has a fan heater running (overnight on cheap rate Octopus EV tariff) or it would be as cold & snowy as the Qashqai 😉
