The music video for Super Bon Bon by Soul Coughing has to be one of the MOST "They Might Be Giants"-like music videos I've ever seen.
Guy in giant clown pants? Check.
A person playing a musical instrument in the middle of a liminal space and occasionally turning their head to look in odd directions? Check.
Someone being dragged behind a car while singing? Check.The only thing it's missing is an accordion and some light stomping.

Just when I was not expecting it, Soul Coughing released an album with remixes of songs from their debut album, which had itself a 30th anniversary release last year.

Mounted the payphone on the wall.
Made a custom instruction card for it.
(still need to turn that into a template, put it up somewhere, blog it)And finally wrapped my head around #Asterisk enough to get it running on a Raspberry Pi.
So now we can use the payphone downstairs to call the old 1980's rotary phone upstairs (and vice versa)!
And they can make and receive PSTN calls (via Twilio)!
(There's a blog post in this one. I ran into several things that I really wished someone else had run into and documented before me. Which means I need to document them, publicly.)But more importantly, I think I understand Asterisk enough to make it do the fun #payphone things I've wanted to do - like Dial-a-song, or Dial-a-joke, or call a random other payphone, or silly smart home things, or voicemail shenanigans.

Well, it’s finally here!
I don’t have the original pressing to compare it to (alas, bought the CD at the time), so it’s hard to know how this compares. It certainly seems to have an extended bottom end, quiet surfaces…and maybe a bit of a muted high end?
Could be as recorded…happy, regardless, to have it spinning…

Irresistible Bliss turned out to be exactly what it says on the tin. I enjoyed it so much that I went on to the third Soul Coughing album, 1998's El Oso. Then I went back in time to 1994 to listen to an old favourite, Ruby Vroom. Down to This is among many fun tracks on this album;

Going to see Soul Coughing tonight at Terminal 5. So excited for this show. The first and last time I saw them was Oct 1998 at Higher Ground in Winooski, Vermont. One of the top five best shows of my life.

tonight’s #soulcoughing stream has me thinking about the times I’ve seen them. After #seahearnow in Asbury Park a few weeks back the show that stands out for me is the stone pony show in 1996. The AP of that time vs now is incredible to think about.
