I have to say in the #SotM2026 recordings it's pretty weird that the camera was put behind the audience and is filming people's screens. You can see what they're typing. They were clearly not aware of it.
They also used a moving camera operator behind the speaker, showing the audience and zooming into faces.
Never saw this in previous SotM recordings, and given that the #OSM community is usually rather privacy conscious/respecting, this definitely felt strange.

State of the Map, the annual #OpenStreetMap conference, took place in Paris, France a few weeks ago. As usual, they had a big map, and you put a sticker where you come from.
I love that the French included a call for the end of Britain!

weeklyOSM 841 is out, and it's the State of the Map 2026 issue. Group photo from Paris up top.
Also inside: Hiki's Deutsche Bahn Metadata Cleanup project for German railway stations, and Denmark's OSM community making accessible parking spaces their September mapping focus. Both are the kind of quiet data-quality work that shows up later in everyone's routing results.

@Armavica totally agree! And while ironically I embody that very hegemonic demographics you're rightly pointing out, my talk at #SOTM2026 ("Whose Knowledge Counts? Analysing Diversity and Exclusion in OpenStreetMap's Tagging Proposals Process") was precisely about this, but in a very specific contribution type: tagging proposals.
The first part of the session covered why maps are not neutral and why the lack of diversity is an issue.
