  1. Had a second round of #sorrel sauce from the garden tonight! Glad we brought some of that plant with us when we moved for our garden here. It makes a very tasty lemony/creamy sauce for fish.

Also goes nicely on asparagus, or chilled as a spread on sandwiches. Versatile.

( There's a similarly named red flower of a plant in Jamaica that is different than this. There's also a version of the green leafy one that has bright red veins through its leaves. )

  3. Pretty good #Saturday:

    1. Didn't want to heat up the house so I made #suntea in a #masonjar on the patio. Didn't want to turn the oven on either, so I set my plate and the frozen meal out on the hot patio as well, covered. #SolarCooking!

    2. Went to bed when I was tired instead of pushing to stay up later. Woke up #rested for a perfect #sunrise.

    3. Repotted a bunch of #sorrel which is becoming a regular additive to my #fresh green salads.

  8. I started this huge pot of #sorrel from a small handful of free seeds, 4 years ago. I've been harvesting/eating from it, year round ever since! I keep roots mulched in Winter. It keeps providing fresh healthy food, every single season 👩‍🌾💚👍

  10. Throughout the #Caribbean, the sip of the holiday season comes in a holiday-appropriate shade of ruby red: #sorrel. This sweet, cinnamon-spiced drink gets its festive deep-red shade from the flowers of Roselle, a species of tropical #hibiscus plant used to make it. nevisblog.com/caribbean-recipe

  12. Don't say goodbye to sorrel yet! 🌿 It's one of the last plants to die down in autumn.
To get that zesty flavour all winter:
1️⃣ Cover a few outdoor plants with cloches.
2️⃣ Move roots into a cold greenhouse.
3️⃣ Sow seeds in pots in summer for indoor pickings.

  14. #Spring in #Bywong. The magpies are set to lay, the wrens are busy and chatty, the bulbs that Peter, the very nice bonkers man planted all those tears ago are UP.

And #bunnies. My lovely #sorrel absolutely murdered in the night by the bloody bunnies. They've discovered a leaky section of electric fence, lucky buggers.

  16. I grow 4 kinds of #sorrel on year round basis - common garden sorrel, Arctic dock, Belleville sorrel & Patience dock. The assorted sorrel salad greens pots are moved into small greenhouse in Winter. I do succession sowing every 2 weeks for continous harvest. I let the strongest plants go to seed & use those seeds to grow more.

  18. Had the first creamy sorrel sauce of the new garden for supper, over a nice piece of salmon. Yum! A tasty treat we haven't had since last year.

(This uses the leafy green variety, not the red flowering plant of Caribbean fame)
