For five years, the #ClusterROOTS, the #unistavanger and the Scientific Research Center of the #SoranUniversity have been jointly investigating questions concerning the economy, the exchange of knowledge and goods as well as social aspects of the Delzian Plain (now in the #KurdistanRegion of Iraq) 5000 to 8000 years ago. Documentation is very important on an #excavation, or as the #FromMoundtoCave team puts it: "As we can't take the finds - and in this case the pottery - back to Kiel, we document everything as good as we can before we leave so that we are able to work with our material after the excavation has ended".

  6. Update from the excavations at Gird-i-Dasht: The number of finds is already considerable. All finds need to be carefully attended to:

    "Can you spot the best piece of the day? It's a tiny, tiny piece of ceramic."

    "Washing sherds can be more challenging than one might think. You have to keep in mind where the sherds came from and you have to be careful not to wash away the colouring or any other materials from the sherds".
