Just arrived at @ircam_paris for #improtech . Setting up the Sophtar in studio 5, this afternoon at 16:30 I will presents the instrument and its distinctive techniques, and improvise with different algorithms and models. #sophtar #musicresearch #newinstruments

Next week is NIME week! Not going this year – Canberra is way too far from Berlin – but I finally uploaded my presentation from last year. Features the Sophtar and a somewhat pretentious digression about magic, ergodynamics, and a quote from a book by Benjamin Labatut #NIME #NewInstruments #Sophtar http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcftQWdpFw0 https://www.federicovisi.com/sophtar-presentation-at-nime-2024/?utm_source=mastodon&utm_medium=jetpack_social

Photos and a short video from the TCP/IP quartet concert at Studio Acusticum. I played the #Sophtar and tested a few new interactions with the Acusticum #Hyperorgan.

More videos from the Embedding Algorithms Workshop! Three this time: @federicovisi (me!) with an early presentation of the #Sophtar (so much has happened since then, particularly after working at the #intelligentinstruments Lab) https://youtu.be/N8uK5HPQ5lM

The Sophtar is a musical instrument with embedded
#machinelearning that I have been working on the past couple of years. Here is the #Sophtar page on the #IntelligentInstrumentsLab website: https://iil.is/research/sophtar#academicchatter #academicsky #ai #ml #music #experimentalmusic

Some of the work on the #sophtar I did at the Intelligent Instruments Lab in Iceland:
- we built an extension that allows the instrument to self-play by means of solenoids (with thanks to Halldór Úlfarsson);
- we implemented a filtering system to control feedback for specific harmonics for each string (with thanks to @thor for the idea);
- we embedded ML models to activate the solenoids and tune the filters (with thanks to @victorrileys ) #ml

Presenting the #sophtar online for the Artistic Research Forum 2024, with @josteinstalheim in Trondheim and the TCP/IP quartet. North to south: Stefan Östersjö in Luleå, @codespira1 in Stockholm, @robertek_74 in Malmö and myself in Berlin. We will perform and then show something about our work for the #zosimos telematic opera, #hyperorgans , and #sophtar

On my way to Utrecht to play and present my instrument - the #sophtar - at #nime2024
The program looks really cool https://www.nime2024.org/program.php?day=monday
Looking forward to tomorrow’s workshop on Embedded AI with Teresa Pelinski & @charlesmartin
l’m performing at the curated jam on Thursday night at TivoliVredenburg and presenting on Friday morning at HKU Conservatorium. -
At #IntelligentInstrumentsLab recording the #sophtar going through a RAVE model trained on Korean chants. The audio of the feedbacking strings goes through the model while the pressure on each of the eight segments of the fretboard shifts each of the eight latent dimensions of the autoencoder. You can also hear @thor coming through the door 🙂 #IIL #NIME #DMI #ML #feedback
