  1. Now with slots for the power supplies: packing the Sophtar for a trip to Paris, I will be at @ircam.bsky.social until the 26th, come say hi if you’re around.

  2. Just arrived at @ircam_paris for #improtech . Setting up the Sophtar in studio 5, this afternoon at 16:30 I will presents the instrument and its distinctive techniques, and improvise with different algorithms and models. #sophtar #musicresearch #newinstruments

  3. Next week is NIME week! Not going this year – Canberra is way too far from Berlin – but I finally uploaded my presentation from last year. Features the Sophtar and a somewhat pretentious digression about magic, ergodynamics, and a quote from a book by Benjamin Labatut #NIME #NewInstruments #Sophtar youtube.com/watch?v=bcftQWdpFw0 federicovisi.com/sophtar-prese

  4. More videos from the Embedding Algorithms Workshop! Three this time: @federicovisi (me!) with an early presentation of the #Sophtar (so much has happened since then, particularly after working at the #intelligentinstruments Lab) youtu.be/N8uK5HPQ5lM

  5. Video of the Sophtar performance at the 2025 Guthman Musical Instrument Competition, Georgia Tech, 8 March 2025.

  6. Some of the work on the #sophtar I did at the Intelligent Instruments Lab in Iceland:
    - we built an extension that allows the instrument to self-play by means of solenoids (with thanks to Halldór Úlfarsson);
    - we implemented a filtering system to control feedback for specific harmonics for each string (with thanks to @thor for the idea);
    - we embedded ML models to activate the solenoids and tune the filters (with thanks to @victorrileys ) #ml

  7. Presenting the #sophtar online for the Artistic Research Forum 2024, with @josteinstalheim in Trondheim and the TCP/IP quartet. North to south: Stefan Östersjö in Luleå, @codespira1 in Stockholm, @robertek_74 in Malmö and myself in Berlin. We will perform and then show something about our work for the #zosimos telematic opera, #hyperorgans , and #sophtar

  8. On my way back to Iceland from #nime2024 I had such a great time, lots of inspiring performances and presentations and very nice to meet many old and new friends in person. It was sooo much fun to perform with the #sophtar on stage at TivoliVredenburg together with seven other musicians.

  9. On my way to Utrecht to play and present my instrument - the #sophtar - at #nime2024
    The program looks really cool nime2024.org/program.php?day=m
    Looking forward to tomorrow’s workshop on Embedded AI with Teresa Pelinski & @charlesmartin
    l’m performing at the curated jam on Thursday night at TivoliVredenburg and presenting on Friday morning at HKU Conservatorium.

  10. At #IntelligentInstrumentsLab recording the #sophtar going through a RAVE model trained on Korean chants. The audio of the feedbacking strings goes through the model while the pressure on each of the eight segments of the fretboard shifts each of the eight latent dimensions of the autoencoder. You can also hear @thor coming through the door 🙂 #IIL #NIME #DMI #ML #feedback
