My coolest, outdated retro device—The Sony D-E01 CD Walkman
One of the coolest, outdated devices that I am lucky to own is the late 20th century Sony D-E01 CD Walkman.
This was the pinnacle of portable compact disc (CD) player technology. Rather than use a buffered skip protection, it used “G-Protection” or a gyroscopic vibration, which was essentially “skip-free” for all normal usages including running, walking, etc...

The skip-free functionality came at a cost requiring slide-in loading, rare at the time for single disc players. The disadvantage of slide-in is that it cannot play CD...
