  1. The Last Days of the Loretto Extension

The ugly monstrosity that was an extension to the Loretto School in Youghal, in 2023. It was finally demolished in January this year.

  2. Rearing to Go at the Dingle Races

Number 9 had clearly decided that the racing could wait. I was wandering around at the Dingle Races and right in front of me this dark bay racehouse reared up on it's hind legs while the poor jocket and two men tried to calm the animal. It only lasted a moment and the racing continued.

  3. Sant Martí from the Side Street

Several years ago I'd been wandering around the narrow streets of Palafrugell's old town when I came across the Sant Martí de Palafrugell and I loved to see it in the early morning light. The sky was perfectly clear which isn't great but the surrounding streets were quiet and it seemed appropriate. Everything was still. The unfinished tower of the church caught my eye, making me think of the cathedral in Málaga. The original church on this site dates from around 1019, but the present […]

  4. The Most British Office in London

Someone chose to put two Union Jack armchairs and an exercise ball in their office window for all of London to see. I spotted this walking past an office block and the arrangement stopped me mid-stride. The chairs are proper wingbacks, upholstered in full flag regalia, flanking a slightly deflated-looking exercise ball that's doing its best to fit in. Someone in that office has a sense of humour, and I'm grateful they put it by the window.

  6. Masked Normality: Life in Cork One Year After COVID-19

A year after COVID-19 hit Irish shores and people were still being extra careful, even wearing masks outside where there was little risk of infection.

Better to be safe than sorry.

Here we are in 2026, and people are still denying that COVID-19 was a problem, while there’s a screenshot going around of a tweet by an “MD” who predicted that everyone who got the vaccine would be dead by the end of 2025. We’re still around. LOL.

  8. Fresh Fruits and Fortune

I went out one morning to photograph Palafrugell, walking around the town, exploring the streets. It’s a small town with narrow road and tall buildings, with a few public squares dotted around. Near one is a vegetable market where I spotted a man buying a lottery card.

The ONCE lottery, seen in the photo, is unique in Spain for being operated by the Organización Nacional de Ciegos Españoles, an organisation founded in 1938 to support the blind and visually impaired. Many of the lottery vendors, like the one pictured, are themselves visually impaired, making each ticket sale a contribution to social inclusion and support for people with disabilities.

  10. There was almost complete cloud cover the other night over Cork as we attempted to photograph the setting sun behind St. Anne’s Church, or Shandon Bells, as it’s known locally.

A few minutes before the official sunset, the horizon caught on fire and briefly lit up. It didn’t last long, and the transition between daylight and night just meant the sky got darker and the air colder around us.

  11. The Samuel Beckett Bridge in Dublin and the lights of the Convention Centre Dublin fight for attention. Red and Green lights reflect off the River Liffey on a warm October evening earlier this year.
