It’s astonishing we never got a sequel to Sonic Mania.
It was a love letter to the original Sonic the Hedgehog games, blending beautifully recreated classic zones with brand new ones.
Music was fab, capturing the essence of Sonic while hinting at what a SEGA Saturn Sonic might have felt like.

For today’s #ThrowbackThursday, we’ve got #SonicMania, which was released on this day 7 years ago.
Interestingly, despite being made by a team of fans rather than Sega themselves, this was by far the best Sonic game in years, and one which they still haven’t matched to this day.So insane to me that we didn’t get a sequel, or that the dev team weren’t put in charge of the 2D games going forward…

Been trying out the #SonicMania decomp on #Linux. First tried building it from Rubberduckycooly's repo, but the resulting binary just segfaulted on startup. The Maniatic Launcher package from Flathub works, but doesn't seem to support the Plus DLC and has a hardcoded player name.
Sure I could just run the Windows version with Proton, but why? :welp:
