I've decided on my Song Of The Year for 2025, after going through a list of 64 songs, a shortlist of 16, squeezed down to 7 songs, to finally pick the winner..
Showing Teeth - Labyrinth
The song starts by ripping you out of your reality, by cat-like screams, grooves to center you, followed by a unique heavy vocal. It's fresh, it's new and just when you think you are adjusted, an angelic chorus comes in and that's it. You love this band now.
The song continues between heavy and cleans, has a nice groovy bridge and ends with a nice growl; congratulations, you have traversed the Labyrinth.

✨ Song of the year 2024 (and a love story)
There were so many great songs this year. Fast ones, catchy ones, brutal ones, banging ones, sweet ones, bitter ones, simple ones, complex ones.
My song of the year is none of that and all of that.
It is an atmospheric, mellow track that takes you through a long, narrow and misty valley on a cloud, only to unfold into a grand finale of epic dimensions in the most reduced way possible.
My song of the year 2024 is Bending Hectic by The Smile.
I love this song like I love Radiohead.

Honorable mention: Rope a dope from No More („Silence & Revolt“, 2015, see, I’m into the 10s already!). I’ve only known them for „Suicide commando“, a dark wave club classic, and only discovered their subsequent albums this year. Shame on me, there’s some great stuff. And while I’ll always love Suicide commando, I can see why the band eventually refused to play that song, as it’s really not representative of the band’s overall style. #SongOfTheYear
