#Songoftheweek: Ergebung (H. Wolf)
Today marks 120 years of the death of Hugo Wolf
"We thank you for the depth of our hearts for the noble gifts of your art. What you have given to us so royally, we were slow to recognise, and many there are who still do not hear or feel you new, deeply spiritual language, in which you have captured in music the heart and spirit our times"

#Songoftheweek: Sure on this shining night (S. Barber)
Samuel Barber said once: “When I’m writing music for words, then I immerse myself in those words, and I let the music flow out of them”. And, in my opinion, the music that flowed from the words of James Agee could not have fit in better.

#Songoftheweek: Einst (F. Liszt)
'Einst' is a minimal song, composed by someone we usually associate with songs of wide melodies, daring high notes and exuberant piano: Franz Liszt. He wrote it around 1878 (eight years before his death) and it's really beautiful.

#Songoftheweek: Was will die einsame Träne (N. Boulanger)
Nadia Boulanger gave her first music lessons at her sixteen; This pedagogical aspect was the most significant of his career. However, Boulanger was also an organist, pianist, conductor, and composer. Do we listen to her?

#Songoftheweek: Am Meer (F. Schubert)
If you have visited the Alte Nationalgalerie in Berlin, you may have stopped before the painting illustrating this article, 'Im Etappenquartier vor Paris' by Anton von Werner. Do you know which song are performing the two soldiers?

#Songoftheweek: Ach, des Knaben Augen (H. Wolf)
My dearest, happy new year! To get our year off to a good start, I have chosen a Lied from Hugo Wolf that will close the three Christmas post of this season. The Twelfth Night is coming; let us hope that we have, even for a few hours, the innocent and hopeful look of the little ones.

#Songoftheweek: Liebestreu (J. Brahms)
After giving several concerts in 1848 and 1849, Johannes Brahms left his career as a solo pianist to focus on composition. In 1953 began publishing some of his works. The first two were two sonatas, and the third, a collection of six Lieder, the first of which, 'Liebestreu', was really successful.

#Songoftheweek: Sonett für Wien (E. W. Korngold)
In 1953 Korngold wrote his last song, Sonett für Wien. The poem, which described a Vienna that no longer existed, was by Hans Kaltnecker (1895-1919). As for the song's music, the composer recovered a theme from the film Escape me never, his last cinema music.

#SongOfTheWeek : Opus 101 (N. Rorem)
This week, I would like to introduce a cycle by Ned Rorem, 'Santa Fe Songs', premiered in June 1980. The cycle consists of twelve songs that talk about usual matters such as love, nature and spirituality, and others not as common as music, and is written for voice (baritone or mezzo-soprano), piano and string trio.
