Reminder that Johannes #Kepler (of the three laws, etc) wrote "#Somnium", a work of fiction, using his... scientific... observations about the relationship between Earth and Moon, about a trip to the Moon, disguised as .... fiction.... to avoid being burned at the stake... in 1634.

And other previous works that perhaps I may be overlooking.

Shelley's work is amazing, and credit is well overdue, but NOT the "first", by any means.... let's not choke irony to death by erasing others.

TIL: Der berühmte Astronom Johannes Kepler schrieb 1617 den ersten #ScienceFiction-Roman: #Somnium.

Da war der Roman noch nicht erfunden, aber es war so eine Art Schlüsselroman, weil er damit seinen Zeitgenossen etwas verklickern wollte, was er, Galileo Galilei und einige andere Wissenschaftler spätestens seit Nikolaus Kopernikus wussten: dass die Erde um die Sonne rotiert und nicht umgekehrt.

Dafür wählte er ein Gleichnis und schrieb, dass die Mondbewohner glaubten, die Erde („Volva“) kreise um den Mond.

Leider wurde Keplers alte Mutter infolge dessen als #Hexe verfolgt.

Wenn sich Aberglaube, Wissenschafts- und Freiheitsfeindlichkeit weiter so prächtig entwickeln, haben wir bald wieder Hexenverfolgungen.
