For the complete life, the perfect pattern, includes old age as well as youth and maturity. The beauty of the morning and the radiance of noon are good, but it would be a very silly person who drew the curtains and turned on the light in order to shut out the tranquility of the evening. Old age has its pleasures, which, though different, are not less than the pleasures of youth.
W. Somerset Maugham (1874-1965) English novelist and playwright [William Somerset Maugham]

1. Enjoyed reading Somerset Maugham's short story "The Book-Bag" while sitting in a diner eating a cheese, pepper, and ham omelette with home fries.
2. In Starbucks, the barista told me how she and her coworkers like to dip madeleines in cold foam. She gave me a free cup so I could try it out. Delicious!
3. Two Kpop groups put out performance videos that I had been wanting to see.

Spoilers alert
Impressed by the novel A House of Doors.
Somerset W. Maugham is a character in it called Willie. And it features a real-world collection of short stories by Maugham called The Casuarina Tree. They're about the white colonialists who served the British Empire in Malaysia.
The stories in it are each on Youtube.
The first two have featured very tense interpersonal relationships and murder.#TheCasuarinaTree #ShortStory #SomersetMaugham #AHouseOfDoors #Novel #Literature

> I took the paper and looked at the Chinese characters. They made an agreeable pattern upon it.
"Won't you also give me a translation?"
"Tradutore—tradittore," he answered. "You cannot expect me to betray myself. Ask one of your English friends. Those who know most about China know nothing, but you will at least find one who is competent to give you a rendering of a few rough and simple lines."

In #SmokeAndAshes #AmitavGhosh mentions #KuHongMing ( #GuHongMing ) as quoted by #SomersetMaugham . It's nice to find an online version of Maugham's writing.. Ghosh cites the quote from #ClashOfEmpires by #LydiaHLiu

First book of the year was this, Somerset Maugham’s Christmas Holiday. Thought I’d get it in while it was still the season. Never has a cover and indeed a title been more misleading! Still I really enjoyed it and may read more Maugham. #SomersetMaugham #Christmas #ChristmasHoliday #Book #books #reading #AmReading #bookstodon
